About this ebook
Brevity - A Collection Of Poems
“Saying as much as possible in as few words as possible.” From the Latin word “BREVIS”, meaning brief. The inspiration for the title of this collection of poetry, has been influenced by the observation that a lot more poets are using this style of writing to express powerful messages. I call them “power punch” writes. It is a liberating way of expressing creativity through fleeting thoughts and words. My sincere appreciation, as always, goes to Vijay Vaghela, for his encouragement, professional formatting and artwork. My poetry collections would not be possible without his expertise and dedication.
During the production of this volume, I hosted “brevity” contests on the poetry site www.allpoetry.com. The finalists have agreed to allow me to feature their poems in this collection. Copyrights have been noted under their contributions. The following are collaborations with poets I admire, and who continue to inspire me with their excellent writing skills:
‘Elementary Hue’
‘The Lick of a Knife’
‘Rock, Paper Schism’
© Malcolm Campbell/Kim van Breda
‘Moors’
‘Convoke’
‘Flower Nectar and Pride’
© Nicholas Courtney/Kim van Breda
‘Skyscraper Skies and Tearing Eyes’
© Anthony M. Minutoli /Kim van Breda
My family continue to support me with their encouragement. I give Glory to God for His unconditional love and gifting me with a passion to write.
Kim van Breda
Reading and writing poetry are my life passions. I enjoy contemporary reads, and lean toward the abstract in my own writing. I have published 17 collections of poetry, and now busy working on my 18th. Besides these one biography and then this book. I have a number of books published at some of the well-known online retail sites that publish print books and e-books. Presently I am in the process of publishing e-book versions of existing books as well as new ones, in various formats, as required by different publishing, marketing and distributors of e-books. Besides the above, I also write poems and interact with a number of authors on various poetry sites.

Brevity - Kim van Breda
I traveled
as I often do,
returned to
what I knew
It's all the
same, life games
with different
unique views
AMONG FISH
when I disappear
do you fear for
lives you took
like a cosmonaut…
the last thing
you’ll realize
when you board
flights into
sacred spaces…
you already had
what you thought
was enough
could you drop me a line
one two or three
with raw bleeding bait
to release the fears
of swimming alone
in this lake
an uncaught
shimmering quartz
swept away by
neglect of respect
I keep safe
deaf to all you
say and do
unless you have
friends among fish
eventually
there will be
no air to breathe
between the me
and drowning you
CRIMINAL LOVER
a criminal lover
who drank champagne
breathed shivers down
my spine and neck
seduction
at
its
reflective
best
and then you left…
DEATH, MY ONE TRUE GROOM
we slither into existence… a date of sorts
digits, counting in decimals before depth
or encounters in life know our names.
Strange, all these protective gloved
games we play, from that first day
its childhood, its warfare intentions
we survive, but lose our initial
projections of hapless expectancies
a curve ball, or hit to the head
takes away extended
