Preface

My interest in family finance grew out of the fact that I had encountered a number of people who seemed to have a tremendous lack of knowledge as to how to manage their family finance, some had no bank accounts, bad credit, no savings, account, no insurance and maxed out credit cards. The oddity is they had gotten into a situation that could have been avoided, if they had known basic family finance. I have been approached numerous times by people who had spent their whole paycheck before the next payday. Some would say, "I ran a little short. The reason for the shortage is they were not managing their money.

When a person gets married, they will have to change. They will have to get their money together. Look at where your money is going. Credit will destroy your life. Get your money straight, it doesn’t matter if you have $1.00 or a thousand dollars, give some to the Lord, give some to your community and save some.

Introduction

In this book you will find basic categories that will aid you in your efforts to successfully manage your family finances. Keep in mind the information, if followed, will more than likely lead you and your family to financial success. It will not cover the broad topic of finance. From the basic topics, there may be other financial information needed which can be garnered by asking questions at financial institutions and other organizations as needed. If you follow the advice given in this book, it will keep you on the right course to successful financial management. Always spending a little less than you make determines whether you will be successful financially, be the millionaire next door or run the rat race for ever. Most families look at financial plans as an after-thought. This is equated with trying to drive a car looking in the rear view mirror. If you plan wisely, you will prosper and you can get your family back to the basics where money is concerned. The secret to being wealthy is not what you make, it’s what you keep.

Preparing a Budget

List the monthly family income, it could be salary, rent money, interest, earned dividends, income tax returns. Complete a list of what you need, debts and what you want. Budget for it, so when your income is received you can pay for what is on the list. There are a number of variable expenses, such as food, clothes, medical bills, insurance, utilities, debts and also list any other ones that you encounter, that is not listed. Suppose
