"Have you read the article in today’s news paper?

Janine asks with a discerned look on her face, holding tightly to the newspaper as she takes another sip of her coffee.

"Rayne… Rayne! I’ve been talking to you for the last five minutes. Where your head at today?

    "What!

Rayne eyes sweeps over the teacher’s lounge then settles on Janine. I’ve only been talking for about an hour and you just drifted into deep space."

I’ve slept all night long but I’m still exhausted.

A tired look could be seen in Rayne’s eyes as she continued.

This dream or whatever it was, I don’t know what it was. But it’s as if the dream you were involved in the actual event and you have been obliterated.

Yes this dream had me interacting with someone, I never even seen before. But at the same time I’m there watching, but not really there.

Janine looks at Rayne more like you’re invisible with a bird side view.

Exactly Rayne taps the table top as she leans closer to the table.

HEY… I get it Janine says amusingly.

You’re like the third person watching everything unfolding in the dream, and you’re able to feel and see everything that the rapped girl in the dream is experiencing.

Rayne reaches across the table and picked up a pack if sugar and opened it, pouring it into the cup filled with coffee sitting in front of her.

It’s something about that little girl… I know you think I’m crazy but.

"Rayne was suddenly interrupted by James Dickens, the physical education teacher touching the shoulders of the two ladies.

Girl, don’t look now but here comes LLcoolJay. Watch him lick his lips Janine whispers to Rayne as she smiles at James, as he begins to lick his lips as he spoke glaring at the two women.

Ump . . . He closes his eyes, as he shakes his head in delight ladies I must say it’s always stimulating to me, when I see the two of the most beautiful sister’s here at Eastpointe Academy. If I could I would love to wrap my around both of you ladies, "James licks his lips again.

Rayne places her hands over her mouth so James would not see her holding back her laugher Well, James, Ms. Tyler and I, have a class to teach and we better get our butts back to the classroom.

James eye brow lifts up as the two ladies stood up and quickly grabbed their pocketbooks and walked towards the door.

Mmmm, I see, James says as his eyes without blinking watch as the two women walk towards the door. Yes, I see ladies we definitely got to keep stimulating those young minds out there.

He quickly licks his lips again as the firm behind of Rayne and Janine comes into his full view. He stumbles forward as the door closes behind them as though their body were sustaining him upward.

Laugher of the two women could be heard as they hurried into the hallways and quickly walked up the hallway.

Rayne, we will continue this conversation about those dreams, after school at that let’s say, stimulating club Impromptu Cafe.

Ha-ha, Rayne licks her lips yes see you there, ha-ha".

As the two women parted and entered into their classrooms Janine wasn’t really sure whether Rayne was telling the truth about the dreams she was having or if she was just pulling her leg for fun. Either way this was too spooky to talk about it now."

The homework assignment was coming from page forty-one. I’ve asked you to complete from one to twenty only.

The loud clatter could be heard as the children removed paper from their book bag and opened their books.

As the intercom announcements interrupts Rayne instruction to her students, she stops and walks around picking up the homework assignment from the children.

"Attention teachers, there will be a teacher’s meeting today at three o’clock.

So please have your student census with registration completed and ready to pass in to me with no delays thank you" The female voice said.

Ms. Duvall, Tamika yells as she grabs the remaining papers from the student’s hands, then walks over to Rayne and places the papers in her hands.

Thank you, Tamika who is my little class helper for today.

You’re welcome Ms. Duvall. I got all the homework from everyone, except that black, ugly, nappy head, stinking Melinda,

Tamika looks over to Melinda and rolls her eyes. The classroom erupts with loud laughter from the other children in the classroom.

Angier could be heard in Rayne’s voice Excuse me class that’s will be enough, Tamika, which will be quite enough from you. Right now I think you owe Melinda an apology.

Rayne walks over to her desk and looks over some papers in a file as Tamika rolls her eyes as she walked over to Melinda who sat at her desk with her head down looking at the desk. I m sorry Tamika almost shouting, but you’re still ugly."

The children burst into laughter as Tamika walked away from Melinda’s side.

Rayne looks up towards Tamika then to Melinda.

Tamika, Rayne calls out to her as the bell rings and the other student quickly stand and run towards the door.

I’ve already apologize to her Ms. Duvall, Tamika say as she walks out the door.

Rayne sees Melinda walking towards the door slowly as she touches her shoulders. Softly she says Melinda, you are beautiful no matter what others say to you.

Melinda looks up to Rayne with a smile on her face. I’m not Rayne kneels down facing Melinda. As slow smile curves Melinda’s face No one has ever said that to me before.

Sometimes people say hateful things to others to make them feel good about their selves. Because you are a seven year old beauty

Melinda chuckles at Rayne’s remarks. I know it’s not true; that’s why no one ever stops the other kids from making fun of me.

Oh, no Rayne stands as she loops her arm around Melinda’s shoulder s.

Rayne face showed the sadness of Melinda pain as she spoke. Melinda looked as despondent when Rayne attempted to put one arm around her and she drew back against her.

Melinda, how would you like to be my little class helper?

Melinda smile fades from her face Tamika’s already your class helper.

Rayne leans down and smiles at Melinda no, I am making you my classroom helper every day until the summer break.

Melinda smile widen showing her missing front tooth.

Thank you, Ms. Duvall she says as she quickly reaches out her small hands to give Rayne a hug; then runs out into the hallway.

Rayne smiles as she watches Melinda dances down the hall until she could no longer be seen.

Walking back into the classroom Rayne begin erasing the black board as she shakes her head at the thought of Tamika’s repeated remarks to Melinda.

The laughter from the other children in the classroom tore at her heart.

Are you ready girl Rayne startled by Janine’s touch to her shoulder as she entered the classroom without a sound.

Oh, my god you scared the shit out of me.

Well, I called out your name, I don’t know how many times.

Rayne places the eraser down and slaps her hands together to remove the excess chalk.

I guess I’m lost in daydream.

Daydreaming about what girl, we’re late again for that meeting. Better get our butts there now.

Rayne looks around the classroom as she grabs her pocketbook and briefcase from the desk.

I’m ready, let’s not keep them waiting.

The next four hours of the meeting passed in rapid fire succession.

After the last thirty minutes of arguments from teachers, Superintendents of the state of Louisiana schools the meeting was brought to a close.

Rayne could no longer continue trading back and forth scares with her co-worker and friends.

It was one of those moments where the air seemed to have been sucked out of the room, and all motion came to a grinding halt.

The meeting ended as everyone made a quick run towards the door, and out into the hallway, down countless flights of stairs, and into the pouring rain. Every meeting was a repetition of the same thing. Swallowing convulsively, trying to take away the endless talk from today’s meet as the superintendents of schools and the soon to be political candidates for upcoming election. Is what the teachers had to do in every meeting?

All with proposal on how to increase the percentage of state testing level of the student but failing to agree with anything.

For a moment no one speaks; they stare each other down in the parking lot. Rayne smiles breaks the ice from the tension the meeting brought on. Rayne spoke first That was a complete failure. Janine choked as she spoke yeah I can’t get over how philosophical everyone can get when all I wanted to do was talk about his suggestions he made." James stares at the two women as he spoke.

His thoughts are so bright, just sitting there firing off about simple things

The other male teacher commented Cocky, you mean sounds like someone we all know.

Laughter burst out from the men, James yells the superintendent would hate to admit to it too. But principal Antiwone and he are blood brothers with the same ugly parents

Janine laughs as she brushes her hair from her face ruining our school because they can’t unite their decisions on how to spend our children money better.

The absurdity of the whole damn meeting James softly says as he smiles, and turns around and glances at Rayne and Janine, two college friends dressed in knee-high boots and tight skirt that hugged their curves their bodies like a glove.

Rayne’s blouse now wet from the rain is all too revealing.

And all the male teachers in the crowd couldn’t help but steal a glance at those ripened melons.

Rayne expression sours as if she just connected the dots I’m drowning out here from the rain, I got to go, see everyone here tomorrow.

Oh yeah me too, Janine says as she made a mad dash for her car parked next to Rayne.

The rain pouring down harder as everyone left runs for cover into their cars.

    See all of you tomorrow.

Rob and James seem unable to take their eyes away from Rayne driving off in her car. Watching as the lights from the rear
