Abbreviations
Today much more than in the past, you see that it is true
Organizations that we talk about just aren’t in their full view.
Instead of spelling out the name explaining what they mean
We see a string of alphabet and enough to make you scream.
It’s not easy to remember all, and too they’re not a few
Even when in context they distort the reader’s view
Because you have to wonder when so many seem alike
Are they used for a good purpose or only a nerve to strike?
Like a dash upon a tombstone with numbers at each end
Or letters with periods after, are these meant to be our friend?
I find so many in my world that are derogative to me
Almost seen as cuss words with so much negativity.
When they were first brought on the scene, we could easily see
They saved us time in writing out words in their entirety.
Some may feel quite proud to be part of an abbreviation
I want to ask and be quite clear: is it for good—to help our nation?
New associated terms using power to rule and reign
Changing what has been our best, now only placing blame
Are we to sit back on our heels without a firm fixation
While we watch a minority few control the situation?
We can look around from history past and see a devastation
That has taken lives of the innocent leading to starvation.
Man can devise and scheme, his plan deceiving true instruction
While wasting everything he touches leading to destruction.
Abbreviations all look alike when they’re written on a page
We learn to signify them too as we can watch them age
You can’t abbreviate the truth no matter how you try
But men with these fixations will always use their ply
No conscience found or good intent, but all we see prevail
Is arrogance and slander with unruliness in their trail
How can it be society has allowed this to come true?
Complacency and comfort zones aren’t holding up for you
Abbreviations are sometimes used to cut an object short
Leaving out the vital nerves strengthening our support.
Like a skeleton is all that’s left when life has lost its sway
A pearl and meat taken from an oyster deep is also this way
An empty shell just tossed about is something we should dread
So take control and don’t be fooled by what you see ahead
We have come too far to see it all go up in clouds of smoke
Reality is at our door, don’t think it’s just a joke
Your life is not the last there is, there is much more to follow
A squirrel that’s in an old oak tree has a room that’s also hollow.
But high above are limbs of strength to weather every storm
Holding fast to things supplying truth will always keep us warm.
Spell it out that all may see none hidden from our view
With heads held high and conscience clear, I am one of you.
The terms that plague society were all devised by man
Many of these cannot last and be washed out by the sand
Time is here forever while our calling can seem so short
Stay vigilant and determined so to arrive safely at our port.
Avoid UN, ACLU, NAMBA, LGBT, and all like-associated factions having ego, lust, and rule as goals for pleasure.
Blind Date
A so-called friend came bustin’ in to the local coffee shop
Where I was havin’ breakfast and drinkin’ coffee that was hot!
He recalled that I owed a favor, one I hadn’t paid
He flopped down hee-hawin’ around, started talking ’bout this maid.
Who, he told, would find a gentleman just right for her to see.
So searchin’ around, none were found, so it might as well be me!
I gulped and could not swallow, my bacon would not go down;
Does he really mean to tell me I’m the only guy in town?
Arrangements, he said, was already made, givin’ me an address,
And told me she’d be wearin’ an orange polka-dotted dress.
I only had five hours left so at once began to dread,
What I had let myself in for and thoughts came to my head.
She wouldn’t be a beauty queen, to this there was no doubt,
Or she wouldn’t be datin’ blind or with just anyone, go out
So suddenly the time arrived, I pulled up to her place, and before I
got my car pumb stopped, she was starin’ me in my face.
Grinning like a chelsea cat with thick lips a cherry red,
I was stymied and so confused, couldn’t make out what she’d said.
I was wondering if it was an accent or if she had a lisp but
I sure didn’t want to smear that lipstick on those monstrous lips!
She wallered in and gasped for breath, the seatbelt was too short.
My poor car was leanin’, from the starboard to the port
The frame creaked from the strain as she finally settled down.
I think she said she worked for the city, in the nearby town.
She could have been a sidewalk tester, from weight she carried aroun’
I could picture them crack or buckle, as they’d sink into the ground.
I was gonna ask her choice of where she’d prefer to go
to an outdoor drive in movie or to an inside picture show?
She said to buy a sack of burgers and find a place to park
she was so hungry she could eat her weight, at least till it got dark!
The onion smell might even hide the odor of cheap perfume.
I could get in the backseat even, and [there would be more room.]
I just finally had to break the news and tell her I have to go,
my stomach was really upset, and I couldn’t sit through a show.
I really strained to say it even when a fib is sometimes best
If my friend ever mentions girlfriend,
I’ll smack him in the chest!
By right he should pitch in to pay for damages for car and springs,
This could take dumb things off his mind, such as blind dates and things.
Bread Pudding
When I was at home and in high school many years ago
I could hurry home for lunch if I didn’t walk too slow.
The school was in our part of town, just five blocks away
Leaves memories I love to share, remaining to this day.
One day the rest of our household all took their lunch in sack
but I decided to take a chance at leftovers for a snack.
So home I came and in the door, much to my surprise
The sight of hot bread pudding was there before my eyes.
Mom had stood at the ironing board but bless her little heart
She knew that I’d be
