Introduction
Remember, there is absolutely no cut off point for when you begin learning or when you stop learning, based on age.
This book is going to tell you a large number of stories, taken from philosophical books, advice and guidance books, and also experiences based on knowledge, extensive reading, practical application, attitude, mental, physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional factors being added, – some of them being personal tales – and so on, about what consists of a self-starter, how you can be a self-starter. Or, how can you make your kid one, from day Go itself.
You may notice, I am not using the word Leader, that word has now become rather shabby with its social and political associations in the 20th and 21st century. The same way, “personal integrity and honor” has no locus standii, in today’s cynical world, where it is very easy to put your hand upon your heart and say “on my honor”and expect to be trusted and believed.
But every parent out there wants his kid to be a leader. He associates personal, financial, social, national and international success with this particular word. We have thousands of bestsellers out there, teaching you how to become a leader, even if you happen to be a total jellyfish personality wise and behavior wise. It is interesting to know, that none of the writers who have been writing these so-called bestsellers have the time to sit down, during their leadership activities, and get these books ghostwritten by other non-leaders!
Or maybe somebody wants to write his own autobiography at the fag end of a successful career in leadership and wants to justify either his actions or wants plenty of approval of the generations which are going to come after him, and decides to write a self glorifying book on what he achieved as a leader. So is he a self-starter?

So is he a self-starter?
So why do not we go, you and I, explore the world a bit, shall we?
It is surprising how so many parents today are surprised when they see their child doing something of his/her own initiative. They are under the impression that the child is too young and is not capable of making such a serious decision on its own. In this manner, they are limiting the abilities of their own children to achieve their full potential, mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and genetically speaking.
I and my brother were definitely not genetically leaders. However, since childhood, our parents had decided that we had to be trained to use our brains, to their full capacity, and not waste a moment of the day, which could not be utilized better, in the gaining of knowledge, or some manual skill or just having fun, like a normal healthy child does.
And I guess, that is what made us social misfits for the rest of our lives, we were a bit too intelligent and smart for our age groups. And that is the reason why our teachers had decided that as we knew more, we would be given more responsibility, which we definitely did not want, especially when it made us not a part of our age group, but the head of our groups. We did not want to be captains of our houses. We did not want to be captains of our athletic teams. We did not want to be the role models, and examples, to be followed by the rest of the kids.
No child wants to be that. But when we were forced to be the leaders, because the teachers did not consider anybody else responsible enough, fit enough, skilled enough, experienced enough, or a better choice, I guess we had to learn how to lead.
The first thing we learned, is it is lonely up there on the top. That is a lesson, which a child learns through experience, and also, pride goes before a fall.
I was in class VI, when the class teacher called for class elections, for the classroom head. When my name was called, 80% raised their hands. I had never felt such triumph. For a moment, I felt humble, especially when I saw nearly all my friends, – girls – had raised
