    Afterword

    Foreword

    Dear Students,

There is no substitute for hard work and dedicated learning.

However, there are some smart strategies which may ease the path to success. These are described in this book.

I sincerely hope that you will benefit from the advice contained within. This book represents the distillation of many years of thinking and reflecting about the learning process and about success in medical school.

Of course, you need to read the book and understand the concepts. However, positive changes will only happen if you apply the strategies to your learning process consistently. To implement any change, you have to start with small steps at first. But, if you have passion and discipline, you will progress rapidly.

I wish you happy reading and look forward to your success.

Is he more intelligent than his peers? (perhaps, but not necessarily) Is he more hard-working? (likely) Is he more motivated? (very likely) Is he more productive? (Certainly) Does he have certain advantages that his peers don’t have? (Perhaps)

If we consider a student who has no financial worries, good accommodation, supportive parents and friends, a strong social network in medicine, good mentors and so on, life is so much easier, and this impacts positively on his studies. A student who is struggling on his
