    Spilled Verse - Patricia Harris

    Frosted Leaves

    Frosted leaves

    crunching as feet pass

    through forgotten paths

    untraveled.

    That path not taken

In poem that poet spoke of,

    made no difference

    Other than the crunch

    beneath the feet,

    Colors edged with

    Ice squashed into mud

    all so solid and crisp.

    The path clearly marked

    In leaf and memory.

    Grace

Though I swore that I would

    Get more done,

Time and energy ran out before

My work was close to done.

    Excuses flow like water,

    And guilt nearly drowns,

And I have to finally lock it down.

    I must begin with forgiveness

    For the stuff left undone.

    Forgiveness for the one

I hold to the highest standards,

    Who often finds out

    That is the impossible.

For today I will pack away

    That overachiever mind,

And I will accept the fact

That I can’t do it all sometimes.

    Teen

    Life in standstill

    Caught in between,

    Not yet an adult,

Too old to a child still be seen.

    Emotions run wild,

    Changes happening so fast,

    And at this moment

    it seems that forever

    it will last.

    Wanting more,

    Easily bored,

    And not sure

    Quite how to fix it.

    Excelsior

    You were a hero,

    Quiet and bold.

    Always within reach

    So reason told.

    The worlds you built

    Still help so many,
