    Beauty Bites - Marina Lovejoy-Black

    Introduction

Beauty is something that runs through my veins, which is the case for a number of men and women across the globe today. More and more people are entering into the world of beauty and the passion appears to be contagious, spreading like wildfire from person to person. It’s a wonderful spectacle to witness.

However, with the millions of products available on the market, it can sometimes be hard to sift through the wide range of differing opinions and recommendations and find the best and most effective products. Well, that’s what I’m here for. Let me take you on a journey, walking you through a variety of products and techniques that can be used to showcase one's real personality and enhance our individual styles. Each person is different, however, beauty is a one size fits all – skincare, makeup and beauty in general are open fields for anybody and everybody to experiment with and enjoy.

The above is the message I wish to ingrain in your mind with each page - accompanied by a hint of bakery, this is any beauty lover’s playground.

    The Skincare Glossary

The less obvious vocab you NEED to know before launching into the skincare community:

    Actives

Actives are the active ingredients in the product - i.e. the ones that are going to address the particular skin concern in hand

    AHA/BHA

These are acids that exfoliate the skin and help to reveal a better complexion below the skin’s surface

    Ampoule

A highly concentrated version of a serum - the concentration of active ingredients in an ampoule is usually higher. Ampoules are ideal for usage during a breakout or another skin crisis in order to solve the problem as quickly and effectively as possible

    ‘Derma rolling’

Also called micro needling, derma rolling is the practice of puncturing the skin with incredibly tiny holes in order to stimulate it to repair itself and the cells to regenerate

    Dermis

This is the second layer of the skin

    Double cleansing

As indicated, this refers to the act of cleansing twice, usually first with an oil-based cleanser (in order to remove makeup) and a second time with a water-based one

    Essence

Essence, usually used in Korean skincare, is another word for a serum

    ‘Multimasking’

Using multiple different masks at once, on different areas of the face, in order to address varying skin concerns - certain parts of the face might be blemish prone whilst others are dull, etc.

    Pack

A pack is another word for a mask

    Sleeping pack

This is essentially an overnight mask - a mask you can apply and leave on whilst you’re sleeping

    ‘Sloughing off/away’

This means exfoliating dead skin cells off of the face

    The Perfect Morning Skincare Routine

On a daily basis, I receive quite a few questions and queries regarding my morning skincare routine and how I manage to look so awake at the crack of dawn. I'm not, by any means, claiming to have the best skin in the world (I honestly don't. I'm a teenager; I think that says it all) however, I certainly know how to help my skin to look as fresh and as clear as possible using good quality products.

I've been experimenting with skincare for a number of years now; when I was about twelve years old, after experiencing a little bit of an acne problem, I purchased my very first cleanser from The Body Shop. Since then, I've tried hundreds of products on and off and put them to the test but, at this present moment in time, my collection is beginning to settle down, as I discover which ones are keepers.

The following products are the first things I reach for in the morning; they've really contributed towards the recovery of my skin, and they could do the same thing for you.

Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser

    Benefits and key ingredients:

    Oil-free

    Non comedogenic (won't clog pores)

    Salicylic acid

After dampening my face with a warm flannel, I always put a pea-sized amount (well, to be honest, it's more like a Brussels sprout sized squirt) into my hands and apply it onto my face, really massaging as it lathers. This gel cleanser is not only incredibly refreshing and sweet smelling, but has also been my lifeline for reducing blemishes, impurities and lumps. It really works and I highly recommend it.

Benton - Aloe BHA Skin Toner

    Benefits and key ingredients:

    Aloe

    Salicylic acid

Snail mucin (supports natural cell regeneration)

I couldn't be happier with the way that this product's treated my skin overtime. This aloe-based toner by Benton is a beautifully balanced product that's suited to all skin types, including sensitive, due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. I love toners in general and this one is no exception; it calms down my skin and removes all of the excess dirt that provokes breakouts. So, if you haven't tried out Benton's products yet, you should definitely start by adding this one to your wish list.

    Eden's Semilla - Vitamin C Serum

    Benefits and key ingredients:

    Vitamin C

    Hyaluronic acid

    Jojoba oil

    Retinol

    Rosehip oil

Now, this product has got my approval and, quite frankly, it's very deserving of constant praise. Serums are so important within anyone's skincare routine; I make sure I use one daily, without fail, and I really reap the benefits. This vitamin C serum by Eden's Semilla is incredibly softening, smoothing and evens out my complexion. For best results, I recommend storing in the fridge. (It just gives it that  extra  burst of hydration!)

Wishtrend - Vitamin 75 Maximizing Cream

    Benefits and key ingredients:

    75% Vitamin Tree Water

    Vitamin E

    No stickiness or irritation

    Rejuvenating and anti-aging

I've been enjoying this cream by Wishtrend a lot. Everything about this product is perfect for a morning routine; it's lightweight, the scent is pleasant and it penetrates deeply
