About this ebook

A guide to cut through to the facts behind the advertisements on weight loss products. This book is an analytical look at the diet supplements and dietary aides on the market without a monetary interest in the results. Researched by a librarian with a vested interest in what would help her with her excess pounds. Each product is evaluated on its testing procedures, side effects and an evaluation of each item's effectiveness to produce the advertised results. Would you use a product that was only tested on rats? 62 products are discussed. A book designed to either narrow down your options or eliminate wasted money and effort.

    Bibliography

    INTRODUCTION

Many of us have made New Year’s resolution to lose weight, and have tried many diets. Some of us succeeded losing weight only to gain it back again. Some of us had difficulty losing any weight at all despite our determined efforts and depriving ourselves of what others ate freely.

At an early age I suddenly went from what might be considered a normal weight to chubby, then fat. I have spent my life dieting and searching for answers about how to solve my problem – carrying around an extra 65 pounds. I have tried 12 Step groups, Weight Watchers, Tops and everything else I hadn’t tried already. Because of this journey I have learned a great deal about myself and I am a much happier person today despite the extra pounds.

This book is primarily a result of information I have been saving for years. Every time there was an article about some new magic weight loss secret I clipped it and filed it away. I am also a librarian and love research. I am not a scientist so the information you read here is that of others. You will find a bibliography at the end, and I encourage you to look at the sources that have been used in this book. Many of the supplements have wonderful benefits other than that of weight loss that I could not go into more depth about. Note side effects that are mentioned.

This book relates research that I have collected. I can not personally recommend any supplements, although I have snuck in some of my experiences. I have learned that we are all different and what works for one person does not necessarily work for others. Any time you are considering something related to your health, it is always wise to consult your physician.

    5-HTP

5- HTP stands for 5-Hydroxytryptophan and is derived from the seed of a green shrub that grows in Africa called Griffonia simplicfolia. The extract works directly on the appetite. 5-HTP empowers the brain’s serotonin output allowing users to eat an average of 1,341 fewer calories a day and cut their carbohydrates by 50% without effort. Both Doctor Oz and Harry Preuss suggest taking 50 mg. twenty minutes before your meals, three times a day. Results will become apparent within one week. Not only will you find your
