    Twitchin' - Corey Hardin

    Introduction

    What is Twitch.tv?

TWITCH.TV is a streaming platform owned by Twitch Interactive. Its focus is video games, but recently has expanded into two more categories: Musical and Creative.

Back in 2007, a website called Justin.tv was launched that allowed people to broadcast videos online. The site was very successful and was later divided into several content categories. The gaming category was growing extremely fast and it quickly became the most popular category on the site.

A few years later, in 2011, the company decided to separate the gaming category under the name of Twitch.tv, which was inspired by the term twitch gameplay. Since then, Twitch’s growth is unparalleled by any streaming or TV service out there and has over hundred million unique visitors per month and still growing, eclipsing other competing services like YouTube or Dailymotion by a very large margin.

In 2014, the original site, Justin.tv, was shut down and all resources were poured into Twitch, improving it even further. People who were streaming could record their own highlights for up to two hours in length, and could save their past broadcasts for up to two weeks for non-partnered users or two months for TURBO users and partners.

The Twitch homepage, Twitch.tv, displays games based on viewership, which means the most popular games will always be at the front, which in turn also makes their respective streamers more popular in general.

Twitch even acquired the organization known as GoodGame Agency, which has its own E-sport teams: Alliance and Evil Geniuses.

    Who uses Twitch.tv?

TWITCH IS VERY POPULAR in the world of gaming and, as such, it’s the go-to place to broadcast game-related content for the millions of viewers out there.

Twitch is used by various types of people for myriad reasons. Individual player streams consists of:

    -  Pro Player streams

    -  Non-pro player streams

    -  Entertaining streams

As their names suggest, people have different reasons why they stream. For example, pro players stream for fun and because it makes them more popular, it also paints a different picture for them as a person and their viewers love them for it. They are also really good at the game, so some of them even talk through their actions and thought processes during a game. This is good for someone who wants to learn more about playing the game.

Non-pro players generally get less viewers unless they are really good. It still does not matter to them because they also do it for fun and although not pro players yet, some of them get noticed because of their streams and may get picked up by a team and earn their own salary.

Entertaining streams are just that, pure entertainment. Some of the entertaining streamers are even more popular than pro players, some of them are pro players. They are fun to watch - there are lots of memes, people interact the most here, and if you don’t like to take the game seriously, or are not in the mood for trying hard, these streams are the perfect opportunity to grab a drink and enjoy yourself on late nights.

Another category of stream has publishers/game developers. Almost every publisher/game developer has
