    My Favorite Bible Verses

    1

You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

    JEREMIAH 29:13

It’s astonishing to ponder the reality that God invites us into relationship. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reveals God’s desire for His people to know Him. But in all relationships, there must be intentionality in order for intimacy to thrive. A close relationship with God doesn’t happen by chance. The words of the prophet Jeremiah convey the truth that we won’t know God intimately unless we are serious about pursuing fellowship with Him. The phrase search for Me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13) indicates we’ll need to devote time, focus, and energy to knowing God well. The primary ways we experience a flourishing relationship with the Lord are through Bible study, prayer, and worship. Spiritual disciplines are not intended to be approached with the mind-set of trying to earn favor with God. Instead they are the path to His grace, putting us in a posture to learn about God and to experience a vibrant relationship with Him.

Father, teach me to seek You with all my heart. Please give me a desire to know You and to make my relationship with You the most important thing in my life.

    2

If you seek [understanding] as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.

    PROVERBS 2:4–5

It’s impossible for us to love God without knowing Him, and the best way to know Him is through the Scriptures. Thankfully, the Bible provides us with all the knowledge we need about God. But the Bible shouldn’t be approached like a textbook. Attaining knowledge of God isn’t like taking a history or math class where our motivation is to acquire information we will regurgitate on a test. The goal isn’t for us to know about God but rather to know God. The writer of Proverbs instructs us to look for understanding as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures (Proverbs 2:4–5). But like most things of value, this takes time. As we linger in the Scriptures seeking to understand His ways, character, and will through the holy Writ, we will come away with spiritual treasures. As we continue to mine the Word of God, those treasures will become the most valuable things in our life.

Lord, as I study Your Word, I pray You will increase my understanding and knowledge of You. I ask for the privilege of knowing You well and experiencing a vibrant relationship with You.

    3

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.

    PSALM 139:17–18

Is there anyone in your life who knows everything about you and loves you anyway? When King David wrote Psalm 139, he emphasized God’s complete knowledge of him. He wrote, O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off (Psalm 139:1–2). God is omniscient, meaning He possesses infinite understanding and knows everything about His creation. It’s both humbling and exhilarating when we realize God knows our darkest secrets, and He still pursues us. Amazingly, He also reveals Himself to us, so we have the opportunity to know Him. When we read the Scriptures, we ingest the very thoughts and words of God. King David marveled, How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! (v. 17). God is infinite and will always have new things to reveal to us, and He will never reject us.

Father, You know everything about me and still love me. Thank You for the opportunity to have a relationship with You and enjoy Your fellowship.

Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
