Detective Harriet Brown Four The Prince - Christopher Charles

    Prologue

Raul had rescued Harriet from certain death from his father-law who wanted her dead because he believed Raul would never be true to his daughter until then. Her death had to be by Raul’s hand to prove his love for his daughter. He did not calculate the amount of affection Raul still had for Harriet and found himself dead instead

Raul flew back to Columbia to find his wife had died giving birth to their daughter. He did not tell his mother-in-law he had killed her husband, but he blamed his death on a drug deal that had gone bad.

Harriet could no longer see how they would ever be together again. He was married and had a child. He was still in the drug business and always hiding from the law. She could never stop loving him, but she needed to forget him and move on with her life.

She finds herself protecting the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. The CIA wants him dead to accommodate the cousin of the King, Prince Fahd. He promises a decrease in oil prices along with an increase in the supply of oil when he becomes King, but first, he must have the current Crown Prince removed. Harriet’s company is trying to prevent the assassination.

    1 New Beginning

Harriet’s limousine pulled up to the office, she saw another limousine with a driver parked beside it. She flipped her long blond hair back and entered the office with Youngsu, her Korean driver, to see an older man with graying hair, and dressed in a black suit waiting for her. He stood as she approached him.

My Name is Harold Bevens. I am an attorney for the Saudi Government. I am here on business of a sensitive nature.

Harriet looked back at Rose Blanchard, her secretary, trim with flowing grayish hair with a questioning look.

He is here regarding protection of one of his clients, Rose said. He will only talk to you. He did not want to meet here, but I told him of our policy of meeting prospective clients outside of the office.

Thank you Rose, Harriet said. We will stick with that policy. She looked back at the lawyer, We can talk in my office. It is debugged on a regular basis.

He followed her into her office and waited until she had seated herself before he took the chair in front of her. He opened his briefcase and withdrew some papers.

Harriet looked up at him and asked, What did you want to talk to me about?

I understand you are a recent graduate of the University of Southern California.

That seems so long ago, but yes, I graduated from the University.

What I am about to say must remain confidential from even your secretary. This is a very delicate situation. I was told by others you can be reliable in this area.

You have my curiosity Mr. Bevens. If I decide to accept your case, I will have to include all of my staff to operate.

Yes, but if you choose not to accept it, then we must keep this confidential for the sake of my client.

I will keep it confidential, Harriet said. Go ahead please.

Mr. Bevens looked at her hard, licked his dry lips and said, I represent the Saudi government. The King, Salman ibn Mugrin ibn Faisal, wants his son, the Crown Prince Saud ibn Mugrin ibn Facial, to attend the University of Southern California. He is seeking closer ties with the United States Government. He will be King one day and feels this is very important.

I have very little influence with the University, I don’t think I can be of any help here, Harriet said.

You don’t understand, Mr. Bevens said. He is very vulnerable when he attends the University. We will try our best to protect him, but we cannot be with him throughout the day. It would take away any advantage he would gain by attending the university. A group of armed guards would not lend well to him attending secretly. He needs to attend without calling notice to his station. There are many who would not want him to become King even in the royal government.

You want us to provide this protection?

I think you are understanding our position.

"I don’t see how this is going to be any different, sir. To protect him, we will be visible.

We want you to attend school with him. We are sending a bodyguard with him of course, but we would like you to be his back up.

Sir, I appreciate your confidence in our firm, but we are not into babysitting young men.

I was told by your FBI; a Mr. Clark I believe. He said you are very competent and sound ideal for what we are seeking.

You want me to attend classes with your Prince, and how about at night when he sleeps.

"He will have his bodyguard with him at all times. You are to be with him during the day, especially at social events and class, and of course use your spyware to protect him at all times.

How long is this supposed to last?

One school year, or two semesters.

How big is the threat against him?

There are many in our country that would like to see him dead and especially in the United States where it would affect the relationship between our countries. Then there are others outside the country who would like the opportunity to strike back by killing a prince."

My responsibility will be when he enters school and up until he leaves each semester. Is that correct?

Yes, we are responsible for him in between, before, and after he leaves the school. You would be responsible for him while he is in school including day and night activities.

Would we be paid if we were not successful in keeping him alive?

We would pay for your expenses.

Harriet thought a moment. She is putting her life on the line again. It will have to be a million dollars to start and a half million at the end of each semester plus any expenses we have incurred because of him.

That is a little steep, Mr. Bevens said.

We are taking all the risks here, Mr. Bevens. Harriet said. I am not all that excited about the assignment. Also, you will have to keep his attendance confidential including with the University if that is possible. The less who know he is here, the safer he will be. I am sure you can understand this.

Yes, but what are you expecting in expenses?

Whatever it takes to keep him safe. In fact, you will need to include another five hundred thousand for expenses to start with, and to reimburse the account to keep that amount in it. I will have the only access to the account with a debit card.

Mr. Bevens swallowed, and asked, Is there anything else?

I am sure there will be, but for now that seems to be it.

I will have the agreement drawn up.

No, I will have my attorney draw up the agreement.

Then I will await to hear from him, Mr. Bevens said as he stood. I am staying at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles."

Can you give me any information on my client? Harriet asked. It would help to see what I am up against.

I will see what I can send you. He is not all that unpleasant, ma’am, Mr. Bevens said as he moved towards the door. I will call you when your attorney has the agreement and we need a signing.

Harriet nodded and followed Mr. Bevens out to the main office. She turned to Rose and said, Mr. Bevens will be our new client. Please give him our attorney’s information.

Mr. Bevens turned to Rose and picked up the attorney’s card. He turned back to Harriet, Thank you for taking the assignment. I know the Prince will be pleased. We would not have allowed him to go otherwise.

Please send me all the information you can, Harriet said. I need to know my client to protect him.

He nodded and left the office.

Harriet turned to Rose, It appears I will be going back to school.

Rose smiled, And what school is that?

University of Southern California. It seems our Mr. Bevens wants a bodyguard. This will not be an easy assignment. I will have to attend classes with the prince and his bodyguard. I will need an alias and acceptance into the school. I want it to appear we met there. He will have one bodyguard with him.

Call Mr. Godfrey and have him make a contract. We are to receive one million to start and five hundred thousand at end of each semester and a five hundred thousand expense account that should be maintained while we have the case."

How about if the prince is killed while we are guarding him?

We will keep the million dollars because there is a good chance one of us would be killed also. The five hundred thousand would be forfeited only.

Got it! Shall I call the boys in?

Yes, we need to work out where we can place our spyware,

Will you be staying at the dorm or will you be in a sorority house?

Make it the dorm for now. You have to be invited to join a sorority house.

I’ll have the boys here by eight tonight.

That will work out, now I need to talk to James, our FBI benefactor. She walked back into her office and dialed the FBI office, actually the cell phone of the Assistant Director of the FBI, James Clark.

    Phone:

    Clark here!

This is Harriet, I would like to invite you to dinner.

I thought you might be calling. This would not have anything to do with a prince?

I suggest we talk in private, sir, Harriet said a little irritated.

Yes, of course, I will pick you up at your office at six.

No, I will meet you at the Solarium Restaurant at six, Harriet said and closed her phone.

Mr. Bevens sat back in his seat, and watched his driver Joseph, a big man with broad shoulders and black hair, work his way through the traffic. The window to the front of the car was closed allowing him the privacy of a phone conversation. He flipped open his phone and dialed a number he had memorized earlier. He would be throwing his phone away later.

    Phone:

    A voice answered: Yes?

She is going to take the position. We will follow the plan.

    I can do it sooner.

No, it needs to have an American flavor to it first to avoid suspicion at home.

If your plan fails, then we will do it my way.

The voice goes silent as Mr. Bevens closes his phone.

He leans forward, opens the window, Take us to the hotel. We will be staying a few days it seems.

    Later: 6: O Clock

Harriet’s limousine pulled up to the front of the Solarium Restaurant. Youngsu opened the door for her and doorman led her into the restaurant. She saw a booth off by itself near the solarium with a tall man with broad shoulders, and wavy brown hair, Clark was here. She smiled to herself as she approached the booth knowing James was thinking he was on a date with her. She liked him well enough, but not in a romantic way. He has been a good friend in the past.

He stood as she approached, Finally we have a chance to see each other again.

Yes, it has been too long again, she said sliding into the booth across from him. After she settled herself, she looked up at him, and continued, I wanted to thank you personally for sending new business my direction. Though at the moment, I am not sure how I am going to handle it.

You are talking about a Mr. Bevens, yes, he was by my office first. I did not send him your direction. He wanted low key protection, but I didn’t think we could guarantee the protection under the conditions he wanted. He suggested your agency and asked if we would support the request knowing we had worked together. I personally do not think it can be done, and I would recommend you not take the case. I could not tell you this over the phone, but it just did not feel right to me.

The waitress approached, and they both ordered lunch. The lady nodded and left.

Okay, now did you take the case?

The fee was right, so yes I took the case, Harriet said, But it seems I did not know what I was getting into. I am hoping you can enlighten me.

It seems the crown prince wants to attend an American school without all of the security he is used to. He wants to be a regular student participating in the activities of the school. His security is having a nightmare of a time trying to figure out how they can protect him. That’s where you come in.

Do you have any ideas how it can be done? Harriet asked.

First, you have to find out who would want him dead and work back from there.

    What do you have?

I can give you a copy of his file but is not very complete. They do not like to give out information. We don’t even have a picture of him.

    Where is his greatest threat?

Probably his own country, James said. There are plenty there who would like to replace him, but don’t leave out the other countries around them. They have created a few enemies in the past. Payback would be on their menu if given the chance.

I can’t be taking weapons into the school, Harriet said. How do I protect him?

Use your spyware, it has been reliable in the past. That’s something we could not do legally.

We don’t know who the bad guys are yet. I was hoping you could be of some help here.

As I said, we have very little on him, and they refuse to send us any more information. I think you are on your own here.

I hope we can count on you if we should run into a problem.

The Crown Prince is a valuable asset to our country, and yes, you may call me anytime.

Harriet smiled, and changed the subject to other lighter topics. Lunch lingered another hour. She gave him a light hug and a kiss on the cheek and had her Korean chaffier, Youngsu, drive her back to the office.

When she entered the office, her secretary, Rose said, You had a call from Mr. Bevens. He wants you to meet the Crown Prince’s bodyguard and go over the security detail with him. His name is Raul Mohammed Mugrin.

    Where?

He is flying into the Chino Airport. She looked at her watch, In forty-five minutes.

Did he say where I am to meet him?

No, but he is flying a Gulfstream 650 ER. There can’t be that many.

No, but I am surprised, the runway is a little short for a jet. She looked a Youngsu, We better move along if we are to meet his highness.

    Bodyguard, Rose corrected.

Harriet smiled going out the door.

    2 Plans

Harriet’s limousine drove through the security gate at Chino Airport. She had her Twin Cessna parked in a hanger here allowing her to enter the airport’s security system.

"Park us near the tower, Youngsu. We’ll watch for his plane. Then right on time, they watched the Gulfstream turn on final and land. The plane moved off the runway and made its way towards the hangers where it moved to a tie down position.

Youngsu followed and parked beside the hatch after the engines turned off. He opened the door for Harriet as she stepped out.

The Gulfstream hatch opened, and a lone man descended from the plane. He had dark hair and eyebrows. It was his eyes that were the most striking. He walked up to Harriet standing by her limousine.

I assume you are Harriet Brown?

She stared at him a few seconds looking straight into his eyes. She could feel her heart suddenly take a big leap. Trying to adjust herself, she stammered out, Yes…Yes we are here to take you anywhere you would like to go.

How about I take you? He took her right hand and kissed the back side of it. My plane is at your disposal.

    You are Raul Mohammed Mugrin?

At your service. Do you know of a restaurant we could fly into that could give us a little privacy?

Normally she would have transported him back to the office for their conversation. That was her intention, but now she simply said, Yes.

Good! He took her arm and led her towards the plane.

She looked back at Youngsu as they boarded the plane, We will be at the Big Bear restaurant.

He nodded, but he didn’t like her going off alone with this man. He phoned Rose at the office and related what happened.

She immediately began tracking Harriet’s implant tracking clip in her neck.

    Inside the Plane

Harriet followed Raul through the plane. The interior had six chairs spread out in a leisurely matter. She took the copilot’s seat.

Raul stepped into the pilot’s seat. Where is this Big Bear?

It’s in the mountains. The runway is only six thousand feet. Will it be long enough?

We’ll make it long enough. Raul smiled and pushed the starter buttons for the two engines.

Remarkable the engine noise was not that loud, but he motioned for her to put on her earphone.

She looked back at Youngsu standing by the limousine watching the plane moved towards the runway. What did she just do? The man is a total stranger. She is not even sure he is what he says he is. Is she being kidnapped again?

I understand you know how to fly. Raul said moving the plane towards the runway. He could see the uneasiness in her. How would you like to fly the plane?

I have never flown a jet plane before, She said meekly.

It is the same as Cessna twin engine, but a little faster. He could see her relaxing.

She looked at the gauges. Most of them she recognized, but a few of them were new to her. Maybe you should handle the take-off.

No, if you are going to fly this plane, you need to do it all. Take us to the runway.

She looked up at the call letters above the instrument panel and said into the mike Gulfstream heading for the runway. She used the pedals to steer the plane to the runway after receiving the okay and which runway. There was only one that would be long enough then it would be tight.

She looked over at Raul and smiled. She was still slightly hesitant because this is how she was kidnaped before, but this time she was in control where they were going to land.

She did the plane check at the end of the runway with Raul’s help.

We need a hundred and fifty miles per hour take-off speed, he said. "You could take off with a hundred and thirty, but it is not recommended. Use all of the
