About this ebook

Hostages have been taken on the massive space liner Odyssey. This fifteen-kilometre-long vessel is being taken to Rebel space and is escorted by a small fleet of deadly rebel gunships. With time running out for the hostages, a crack force is mobilised to bring them home.

A small force of Union ships is sent on the rescue mission, and the Dragoons will be providing the heavy firepower for the mission. They must use a combination of stealth, guile and combat skill to overcome the ferocious and well-motivated enemy, and take back control of the ship. It is a tense operation, but the Dragoons relish the chance to put their unique skills to the test.

Part 4 of Robot Commandos, a thrilling new series of short read adventures that follow Takashi Hiraku and the Robot Commandos. An elite unit of augmented warriors that charge into battle supported by an army of robotic drones.

    PART 4

    CHAPTER 1

The high-pitched beeping of the drones surrounding us immediately puts me on edge. The operation that I had conjured up with confidence has begun. Yet that feeling rising from the bottom of your stomach, and surging through your heart with a flutter, makes you acknowledge how real this is. Being out here in space feels like I have less control. The lack of gravity a constant reminder this is no longer the domain of man, as if the usual force that keeps me grounded, makes me brave and gives me drive, has too been made afloat; drifting endlessly under submission of the disembodied presence of space, which we have yet to truly understand.

There’s no backing out now, though, and with that in mind, I get as comfortable as I can within the cramped space of the attack drone we’re in. Ethan is clearly the most nervous. But Ana is still, too concentrated on guiding the machine itself to let anything distract her and blow our cover.

It’s when we approach the massive marble-white build of the Space Liner that everything suddenly truly hits off.

It starts as predicted. As we’re propelled into space, alongside a mass of attack drones towards the massive vessel, the Odyssey ship, the rebel ships surrounding the enormous ship relentlessly shoot at us. The constant force from the explosions violently shakes our drone, making a horribly uncomfortable transition into the action. But as we power through the attack, rays of light shooting all around with lasers striking metal, it becomes clear that the operation is off to a good start. Through the small windows the flashing lights of the explosions light up the area around
