Paleo Diet - Adele Baker
How Does the Paleo Diet Work?
The Paleo diet has been proven to be effective and healthy, given its nutritional approach to help one stay lean, energetic and strong. It is anchored in the hunter and gatherer lifestyle of our ancestors, based on the fact that they never experienced the diseases that we presently contend with. The diet focuses on consumption of unprocessed animal and plant food products, which consist of food items like meat, eggs, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables and the like. It entails avoiding processed foods like dairy, grains, sugar–although some Paleo diet plans allow for minimal consumption of dairy and rice. Our modern diet is filled with refined and processed foods containing sugar and trans fats, which is the major cause of the degenerative diseases prevalent today.
How is the Paleo Diet Different from Other Diets?
One thing that makes the Paleo diet different from other diets is the fact that it’s less restrictive in the sense that you don’t have to eat tasteless and bland foods that you don’t enjoy. Eating such foods may yield faster results in terms of weight loss but the results are not sustainable, as no one is willing to feed on tasteless foods forever. The lifestyle in this book is sustainable, because you don’t have to switch completely from certain meals. All you have to do is to adopt a different way of consuming it.
Another attractive factor is that you don’t have to keep counting the micronutrient ratios and calories when you’re planning your meal. Instead, you are encouraged to eat healthy fats that can enable you to stay full for a longer period of time. The fact that you don’t have to count the micronutrients and calories in the food that you take in is a great benefit. Those who switch to the Paleo diet are always happy that they don’t have to do away with meat, eggs and the foods they love.
What Are the Benefits of the Paleo Diet?
One of the major benefits of this lifestyle is the fact that you are able to eat food that’s clean and free from chemicals, preservatives or even additives. That kind of eating will also translate to reduced chances of contracting degenerative diseases that come as a result of eating processed and junk foods. Eating more red meat may also lead to having more iron in the body, which is a health benefit.
Unlike other weight loss plans that leave one hungry most of the time, you are more likely to feel satisfied on the Paleo diet. The weight-loss aspect, however, comes from the fact that you have limited choices of food as you learn to avoid processed foods. Eating vegetables also comes with anti-inflammatory benefits which is suitable for one’s health. Plant nutrients in fruits and vegetables are essential for human health.
How to Follow the Paleo Diet
To follow through with the diet as a beginner, you will need a guide that you can use, as you may not know from the start what to eat and what is to be avoided. Once you have the knowledge, you will find it easy to follow through with the diet Your focus will be more on what you should eat, rather than on what you need to avoid
