Pastor Lucifer - Benjamin Gainous
CHAPTER ONE:
THE BEGINNING OF THE END
Never underestimate the power of persuasion,
my brother always said. The one brother I had in a family of seven girls and two guys. My brother, his word was law seeing as he was the only father I ever had. Let me change that; one of three fathers I had. By the way, I’m Brian: the youngest of the nine; anyway, my real dad was whoever I wanted him to be: because I don’t know who the hell he is!" My second father: Roland, my big brother who showed me as much as he possibly could about being a man considering that he was only two years older than me.
Roland was the man: smooth, apt and handsome. His physique stayed slim and muscular and you could see his strength through his body as well as his facial expressions. Roe had a look that depicts his stern seriousness and a business mind. But most of all danger. Roe: he was capable of doing almost everything he set his mind to; and what a mind he had! Yeah, he was my big brother and my dad.
Then, there was Reverend David: One of the worst things that could’ve happened to us. He was the master and we were his slaves and there wasn’t a damn thing we could do to change that! Rev sat around with a face of deceit, and malice. He wore his attitude on the smirk of his devilish face which proved he laughed at everyone who bowed down to him!
Rev was tall, broad and UGLY AS HELL! His one eye was patched, his mouth was laced with gold teeth, and his mind was full of filthy thoughts! But we’ll get to that. Reverend David was Mommy’s man, or so she liked to believe. She worshipped him and did whatever was necessary to keep him! Let’s keep it plain; we hated him, and he hated us!!!
This brought on the one wish each of us had: Let’s get together and F@%k him up!
We would often find him smirking at us because he knew our thoughts and more so, with Mommy on his side, he knew we couldn’t do anything about his ugly a@#!
Let’s just take it from the top: where it all started from and the dreams of life and living were sidetracked by manipulation and defeat. This night was the first of our last days. Welcome to Satan-Ville!
On a dark sweltering Harlem night, after completing an eight-hour shift at the hospital, comes a woman who was an aspiring singer in her trademark high heels; tired famished and ready to see her six children. Weary, with just enough strength to carry herself and the unborn child in her womb.
Ernestine who was weighed down by the grocery bags she carried, walked down the dimly lit alleyway. Broken glass littered the street and crunched under her high heels. She was aware of the time because she could hear the nightly news through the window of the above apartment. The heat caused her dress to stick to her with sweat and she could only imagine the feel of a cool shower when she reached home.
Ernestine was taken out of her heat quenching fantasy as she sensed a presence around her. Seeing no one but feeling someone; she moves across to the other side of the street and picks up her step, she’s only three houses from her apartment building entrance. Someone calls out to her, out of the darkness in a low gravelly voice, a bald, dark-skinned, slim thug
approached Ernestine and asked for the time. She responds to him quickly without breaking her stride. The air around her became thick with suspicion as a feeling of uneasiness crept up her back. Ernestine looked over her shoulder, no longer hearing his footsteps and the darkness swallowed up the peculiar existence of his creepy spirit. She finally reaches the apartment entrance with her heart pounding in her ears, because the eerie presence is still thick in the air. Ernestine made it to the elevator, and before the doors could close, she was attacked by the same creepy thug
from the dark alleyway. He raped and battered her with no remorse for her, or her unborn child.
This assault left Ernestine broken and scorned. She was afraid. Her home was no longer a home. The area reminded her of how unsafe this town now was. So, she packed up her six daughters and relocated to Jamaica Queens the very next day where she felt her shame could not follow her and a month later, she bore her firstborn son.
The joy of having her son made it easier to suppress the anger and pain of being violated. In her continual attempts to cover her pain, she spent the next three years bearing children to yet other failed relationships. Single once again; Ernestine found it necessary to find work.
No longer wanting the demanding and fluctuating schedule of a hospital, Ernestine began to seek positions where she could utilize her secretarial skills. After several temporary positions, Ernestine decided that she needed something more permanent; she needed to offer her children some stability.
On her daily walk home, she passed by a strange, scenic church that was a few blocks away from her new residence. Now, Ernestine being of religious background; felt a pull to this particular building and thought it was God sending her there. She decided after weeks of consideration to do what she assumed was God’s will and see if there was a need for a church secretary. But who knew that this would be the pathway to a road of destruction?
Ernestine, did what she does best, put on her best and most respectable outfit, four-inch heels and wore her sex appeal with confidence! When she walked inside the building, she was immediately greeted by an engaging six-foot-tall man in blue jean overalls. It was surprising to her to find out that this was the
