About this ebook
My name is Kevin Ross and I am a 35-year music industry vet and founder of the industry trade site and magazine "RadioFacts." The most common question that I am asked is "How do I get my song played on the radio?." I've seen many people go about it the wrong way because they don't know and I've seen many people waste a LOT of money when phony promoters tell them they can get the job done and they can't. Here I offer 20 of the most uncommon ways that most people don't think about to get it done. So instead of spending thousands and wasting your money, I give you the inside information for less than $10.00. One of the ways that I talk about getting your song on the radio is the often underexplored college radio market. In the book I tell you the role that college radio plays in the industry and how you can use it to your advantage.

20 Uncommon Ways to Get Your Song Played on the Radio - Kevin Ross
HOW DO I GET MY SONG PLAYED ON THE RADIO?
A young rap artist called me and asked who he should pay to get his record on the air at a certain radio station. I asked him who told him he has to pay and he laughed. He said, Everybody knows that.
What he is talking about is something we never discuss in the industry. I will call it the P
word and it stands for Payola. In the hundreds of conversations that I have had with industry people over the last ten years. The P
word NEVER comes up and is never discussed. I don’t know what kind of experiences artists have had with radio stations or whether or not that has worked for them and to be honest I don’t WANT to know. But I DO know that there are other more unconventional ways to get music on the radio that is rarely discussed or that many know nothing about outside of the radio industry.
I have no interest in getting songs played on the radio but I have been a PD (program director) and a radio DJ (disk jockey, announcer or broadcaster). I can tell you how you can get your song played in other ways and why you should not go up and offer money to someone in the game. First and foremost, it’s illegal. Ask yourself how apt would you be to take money from a stranger in exchange for a favor where they could lose their job and get blackballed? OK so we’re done with that, now let’s take it from here in another direction ….
How do I get my music played on the radio?
It’s really not that easy to explain unless you understand the inner workings of a radio station. There are a complex set of rules and standards that the public is never exposed to. In this book, I will give you a crash course on several of the details which should be enough to get you started on the journey and help you to understand why your song is not being played or why you are meeting resistance head on.
