    Pattern Notes

Chain-2 at beginning of row counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Chain-5 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated.

Depending on where they are placed, the 3-double crochet clusters form either vertical or horizontal clusters. Both clusters are made the same; they are just placed in different stitches.

After a vertical 3-double crochet cluster is completed, you will chain 3; the first chain-3 forms the eye of the cluster. The next cluster is made in this eye (which forms the horizontal cluster). There is no chain after a completed horizontal cluster.

Scarf and hood are made in 2 identical pieces and sewn at the top and partway down the side to form hood.

    Special Stitch

3-double crochet cluster (3-dc cl): [Yo, insert hook into specified st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook.
