Winter 2023
Southridge Airforce Base
Commander Stevens introduces Colonel Cutler and his son Josh in a wheelchair to a group of Air Force Pilots. I am here today to talk to you about an experimental mission we hope can help save lives. We have spent the last ten years developing a device we are hoping will dissipate the tornados vortex before it has a chance to do its damage. The Pilots are skeptical and want to know more about this theory and experimental mission. Colonel Cutler explains that we have studies the environment inside the tornado and now we want to educate you on the environment outside the tornado, the most dangerous part.
We have developed a new simulator that will help you navigate the winds and debris. It will not be the real thing but getting a handle on this will help your reflexes come this spring when we can get out there for real. You will all have to make a decision on whether or not to be a part of this mission.

INT: SHELBY AIRFORCE BASE, OKLAHOMA SPRING 2012- DAY

Colonel William Cutler is in his mid-thirties, strong and serious. He is nursing a hot cup of coffee as he nervously watches the sky quickly becoming black as a huge storm brews outside. He quickly clicks on the overhead TV and listens to a newscaster reporting a touchdown from an F4 tornado close to the town of Shelby. Instantly, the overhead sirens go off at the base, and all personal scramble to take cover in the underground bunker.

INT:Flashback

He suddenly remembers the horror he went through five years prior…(Colonel Cutler reflects)he was a test pilot stationed at a special training unit for new aircraft at Johnsons Air Force Base in Texas. As Cutler comes in from a flying an experimental aircraft and lands on the tarmac, he is greeted by a former colleague and friend Matt Crawford. Looking rather strange at the fact that Matt is standing on the tarmac waiting for him, what’s up Cutler? He questions. I am wondering the same thing about you. I am here because the CO wants you right away, exclaims Crawford. Can you tell me why asks Cutler? It seems a new type of F-14 jet came in today and they want you to fly it. Can I take a short restroom break first? Certainly, you can. Where is this new aircraft at, asks Cutler? I am to take you over to tarmac 3. That is restricted area isn’t it. We have clearance. As the two pilots climb into a jeep and drive over to tarmac 3, restricted area they are greeted at the gate by security and allowed to enter in. As the pilots exit the jeep, they notice the crowd of people surrounding the aircraft as they approach. The CO Colonel Todd wastes no time at introducing Cutler to the pilot that flew the F-14 unto the base. Cutler this is Colonel Michael, he will explain to you in detail what you need to know to fly this aircraft. I would advise you to listen closely as this aircraft has all the newest technology. Michael has to return back to Lockheed due to the fact that they are working on another experimental aircraft. The next five hours the two pilots taxied with the aircraft and then took it for a test flight. As they return to base, Michael tells Cutler he is on his own. Cutler is instructed to take the airplane out for a test flight and do the maneuvers he was taught by Michaels and return to base accompanied by two other aircraft keeping their distance. Approximately thirty minutes into their flight Cutler remarks that the aircraft is flying flawlessly, and all maneuvers are completed. This is when he notices a twister in the distance and calls to the tower. The other two aircraft are at a safe distance away, but Cutler’s aircraft is not. Cutler tells the tower that there is a twister in the distance, the tower tells him to veer away from the debris field. He starts making preparations to veer away when a large tree branch lands on the nose of his aircraft blocking the escape hatch exit and the aircraft is forced downward. He repeatedly tries to blow his escape hatch, but it is blocked and would not release to open. As the automatic systems on the aircraft are sounding the collision alert, he continues to push the eject button without success. He felt he would die, but 800 feet from the ground it opens and he is hurled upward still feeling in jeopardy with
