- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A lovely floral designed fabric covered devotional with a blue ribbon marker makes a perfect gift for all the ladies. The same beautiful blue leaf pattern is placed on every page header as well. Approximately half the page is filled with insightful words and thoughts from the author, followed by Scripture. Daily readings will open up more opportunities to know the Lord more intimately. Themes of thankfulness and trust will speak to your heart. Enjoy the large print, too. It's very soft on the eyes.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I am aware that there is some controversy over this author, mostly based on a friend stating that she threw the book out without reading it after reading about the book or author. By that point, I was already partway through the book--I have not personally read any other sources about the book. After reading the introduction (and before I knew anything of the controversy surrounding it), I do admit to a bit of trepidation and considered if I would read the book at all. The premise is that the author sat as a "listener" in the presence of God and recorded what she felt the Holy Spirit conveyed to her. After thinking about it, I decided that it was similar to reading a Bible verse and meditating on the meaning and then deciding how to apply that verse and meaning to your own life. I decided that I would read the book but with a discerning eye and that if I suspected anything did not agree with what I knew of the Bible, I would do further research on that passage or topic. And I would remember that this book is this author's interpretation and is not canon. I decided that if I found ideas that did not jive with the Bible too often then I would stop reading the book then and there. I would caution anyone who decides to attempt something similar to approach it with much prayer and much petition for protection, because opening oneself to the spirit world can also invite in demonic spirits and leave one open to demonic possession or demonic manipulation. For the most part, I did not find anything overtly odd until I reached the end of December. (And yes, it did take me a bit longer than a year to read the book because I was not always on the ball and reading that day's devotion--sometimes I would read two days at once to catch up.)I gave it three stars because I don't really want to endorse the author's method.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5nice devotional
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Keeping in mind that this volume is a response by Sarah Young to an increasingly intimate relationship with the Christ, but she cautions the reader to recognize that she is the writer and has written the devotional from the perspective of Jesus, always, however, measuring her words and thoughts against Scripture. She uses biblical references at the end of each day's devotion to further enlighten the thoughtful recipient of this excellent devotional tool. I used it in conjunction with the Amplified Bible where I looked up her references.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I had to abandon this one. I couldn't get past her pretending to be Jesus.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome book! I love it and it inspires me to love Jesus more every day!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Unlike many devotionals I have read, I actually desire to read this every morning. I look forward to reminding myself of God's peace and love every day because so much of my life has been rooted in fear. I love that it has scriptures to back up what Sarah hears Jesus saying to her, so I don't do much wondering if it's the truth.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful devotional! The best one I've found!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just love Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence. I feel like Jesus is talking directly to me through the words on the page each morning. I was given this leather bound book as a gift from my writing partner on another devotional we're working on together. Wow, she really nailed it. I love the feeling of this book in my hands. I feel conected to the Lord each time I read a devotion from this book.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I enjoyed this little devotional book. It is written in the voice of Jesus which is a little annoying so it was not my cup of tea. I could not help but thinking that if the believer prays and meditates on the scriptures they too will recive their own interpretation of the scriptures directly from Jesus if they want it. If, however, they are not prone to pray in this manner then someone else's message from the Lord will have to do. Personally I prefer to get my messages directly from the Lord; that way as I know His message is specifically meant for me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Written in the voice of Jesus, I did not think I would like this one bit. As a rule, I'm not overly fond of devotionals, but I am enjoying this one tremendously. Each day I find a tidbit to chew on or encourage me throughout the day. I am not finished reading this yet, but I intend to continue, possibly for years.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sarah Young has recorded words of comfort from our Lord Jesus given to her during her quiet time with Him. She has taken these words and formatted them into a daily devotional book, spread out over 365 days. Each day is complete with scripture references. I have the leather bound deluxe edition which feels like a treasure in my hands. For the purpose of this review, I read the book through in its entirety. I am so comforted after reading this book to have confirmation that what I have believed is the voice of our Lord speaking to my heart, is indeed true. Jesus has such a wonderfully gentle and loving way of speaking, and Sarah Young has captured His essence in this book. I felt His presence while experiencing His words from one page to the next. I found myself receiving revelation knowledge as I read, and my interest was sparked to pursue further study on different Bible topics. I highly recommend this daily devotional to anyone who desires to know our Lord Jesus more intimately.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5At first I was a little hesitant to read this book. Daily devotionals, told in the first person voice of Jesus, even if written by a woman who had been a missionary, didn't really appeal to me. I was also concerned about how far from the biblical message it would stray.I ended up with an audiobook version of this anyway, so I decided to give it a try. I found the devotions to be very well done, built from the Scriptures themselves, and providing the Scripture references after each day. Hearing it in audiobook was also a great way to read the book.As an audiobook, I didn't do this over an entire year, but I did take 3 months to go through it. The contents aren't a deep theological study, but a personal and clear reminder of the basics of our relationship with Christ. I found it a good addition to my day and a helpful reminder of important truths.
