About this ebook

HELP ME!!! What do I do to stay jazzed while working with all the day-after-day tasks of writing, then, jumping through the new hoops of endless market chores? How do I care for and provide and nurture the fun of the writer's life?

This marketing thing is a mess. I didn't ever want to be a business

person. If I watch episodes of The Office, I feel like I will throw up.

All the great talent: Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Steve Carell, etc, really do pull off a terrifying mockumentary of how lame and pathetic the world of so-called business-people really is and how the trenches of so-called business squash the life out of all support people.

The whole thought of so-called business-people is so disgusting with its authority over a group of employees: pathetic ego trips; gross sexual come-ons; and in the end, boredom so overwhelming that life has become hell on earth. Am I going to become that by being my own publisher?

The first thing is that the Info about the Indie writer's life is scattered all over the net. With all grotesque business-types doing in-your-face, pathetic pop-ups . . . well, you've seen it all . . . how do I tell what's FAKE NEWS: build your social media platform for years before I start; I can't market my books without a huge budget; I've got to have a copyright, ISBN numbers, bar codes and all that . . .

With all this crap to wade through, just like The Office, how do I keep my writer alive, jazzed and completely inspired? The Zen Of Keeping My Writer Inspired SLASHES THROUGH all that FAKE NEWS fast!!!

WHY READ THE ZEN OF KEEPING MY WRITER INSPIRED?

Very often writers ". . . are deluded. They're always longing for something . . . always seeking . . . . But the wise wake up. They choose reason over custom. They fix their minds on the sublime and let their bodies change with the seasons. All phenomena are empty. They contain nothing worth desiring."

This is the first in Solid Footing Press’s, little big book series, and it is zealous about fanning the creative flame, about looking closely at how writers stay inspired: where does that bold inspiration come from; how does it work; how many negative bridges must our inspiration charge across intrepidly; how come it doesn’t fall apart at the seams; is it a continuum; where does that full-volt charge take place; how can your core writer jumpstart inspiration each and every time you feel it go down the tubes?

The Zen of Keeping Your Writer Inspired is formatted for writers everywhere. It is meant as a propellant to boost them in art of keeping themselves inspired.

So, with the eagle eye of great writers, let’s dig into the basic premise.

    The Inspirational History of inspiration

Inspiration has an unusual history in that its figurative sense appears to predate its literal one. It comes from the Latin inspiratus (the past participle of inspirare, to breathe into, inspire) and in English has had the meaning the drawing of air into the lungs since the middle of the 16th century. This breathing sense is still in common use among doctors, as is expiration (the act or process of releasing air from the lungs). However, before inspiration was used to refer to breath it had a distinctly theological meaning in English, referring to a divine influence upon a person, from a divine entity; this sense dates back to the early 14th century. The sense of inspiration often found today (someone or something that inspires) is considerably newer than either of these two senses, dating from the 19th century.

HERE’S WHAT THE ZEN OF KEEPING YOUR WRITER INSPIRED SAYS ABOUT WHAT MERRIAM SAYS:

As always, there is a lot of great overview with the Merriam-Webster, and that is why we’ve included the whole definition. What does inspiration really mean to us? How can we keep it alive?

For example, the knowledge that inspire. . .comes from the Latin inspiratus (the past participle of inspirare, to breathe into, inspire). . . flags us that we are spot on in our inborn awareness that our inspiration is as vital to our wellbeing as writers as breath itself.

And, of special note, related to what those elevated moments actually are, is the thought found in the for Kids definition . . .the action or power of arousing the mind or the emotions. . . .

We all know that the arousal flash is so important to us. And, we also know that we’ve got a lot standing in the way of that arousal, of recalling our inspirational spark: the writer’s ordinary day by day tasks like going to the dentist; the banality of marketing efforts; the distraction of packs of rabid hyenas gnawing at our buoyancy with destructive criticism; the creative time frame discombobulated—not the writing time itself—by the pressure of yet another manuscript needing to be published.

This is obviously enough to wear a person out. Point blank. That simple. And in the framework of the continual pilfering of our energy is where our inspiration starts to ebb. And that heist takes place when being energized is a real must because of the need for being enthused about the fabrication of our latest manuscript.

THIS IS A TOTAL CASE OF DO-IT-YOURSELF

The Merriam’s, for Kids definition tells us that inspiration is . . . the. . .power of arousing the mind or the emotions. . . . OK! RIGHT! We got that! But where the heck is that power supply located?

That’s right. I mean, where is this spike supposed to come from? We must take care of all those infernal chores and be our own dynamo that shoots sparks into our ephemeral, jazzed selves like some mad scientist our of a ‘40s comic book.

There is no question about it. The most critical mass in a writer’s life is that we are, that we must be, that we must always continue to rally up our mad scientist and breathe life into that power to trigger our mind and our emotions.

We must always remember that the hyena pack will continually be there hounding at your heels—no matter how much cash flow and fame we generate—and that most books fade away. The only chance a writer has for enjoying a long shelf life with his or her work is learning to allow one’s natural inspiration to always remain in place, so we can pump our work full of vigor whenever required.

    IT’S NOT ALL DREARY

Life’s not just writing and hyenas ripping flesh off your soul and reputation; there’s an awful lot more to living this writer’s life, this path you’ve set for yourself.

There’s all the million and one things that those wonderful imaginations—with which we writers are bestowed upon birth—can dream up and discover.

Touring the vast Pacific Ocean in a 10-meter sailboat.

Or, spending a month in a suite at the Algonquin Hotel where you get to feel the vibes from the Round Table with a slew of her juicy reads stashed in your grip. Dorothy Parker: What Fresh Hell Is This?; Complete Stories; The Portable Dorothy Parker; Complete Poems by Dorothy Parker and Marion Meade; Dorothy Parker: In Her Own Words; Dorothy Parker Drank Here; Dorothy Parker: Complete Broadway; Under the Table: A Dorothy Parker Cocktail Guide.

Or, taking the QEII on over to Europe for a literary romp on Eurail.

There is an awful lot a person can use for fanning some life back into that writer’s inspiration.

And let’s not forget about love. Right? The Great Equalizer. And what about a romance while you’re on Manhattan at the Algonquin.

So, no way that it’s all dreary. As impossible as it all can seem at times; we can definitely recharge our writer’s inspiration. And look at how lasting one rekindling can be. Here’s for that love affair you’ve begun on your trip or gone through in a whirligig while ensconced at the Algonquin.

Talk about being inspired with love, here’s a little Shuggie Otis to set those inspiration wheels in motion:

    We had a rainy day

I'm in a snake back situation

    Here's a pencil pad

    I'm gonna spread some information

    You, making me happier

Now I am snappier, while I'm with you
