    About Off the Map

    Jackie is a non-binary woman and a hopeless romantic. This hopelessness, however, has taken on new meaning since they started to express their femininity. Though Jackie can hardly stop checking themselves out in the mirror, the kind of people they’d usually hit it off with no longer show any interest in dating, or even hooking up. Feeling unloved and unwanted, Jackie decides to set off on a solo road trip to take some time to prioritize themselves and avoid dealing with what others think. This mission quickly becomes more complicated when Jackie ends up finding a town where people like them are just part of the norm. Met with a wealth of new possibilities, Jackie — like the other residents they meet along the way — gets to enjoy their sexuality in ways they’d thought they had left behind for good.

    Fed up with trying to date and failing, Jackie bids their best friend/housemate farewell and heads out on the road, destination unknown. If they can’t find fulfillment with a romantic partner, they reason, they’ll have to find it within themselves. Late in their first day of driving, Jackie crosses the border from Oregon into Idaho, stops in a small town for dinner, and finds a place to stay for the night. With the help of a prying stranger, Jackie discovers that this town is more than it seems, and that it may serve as the perfect destination for addressing their romantic and erotic frustration.
