    PREFACE

I took this project upon myself after a conversation with some friends online. The question had come up, Do you consider a verified demonic presence to be a haunting? In the conversation that ensued it became obvious that certain terms meant different things to individuals involved with the conversation. I’ll give an example directly from the conversation:

No. To me 'haunting' involves spirits. Demons are not spirits, having never lived. Which other individuals agreed with. Someone even compared it to a demonic presence to a ‘bug infestation’. This is what I posted: I believe it could be...a haunting is basically 'voices/thumps/objects moving etc...caused by a spirit...and a spirit can be either a non-human entity OR a ghost (the spirit of a deceased human being)...but this is my opinion. It is a very good reason the ghost hunting community needs common definitions in order to better apply the scientific method to investigations. Another individual stated the fact that in Christianity demons are referred to as evil spirits. They also went so far as to look up the Jewish interpretation and found that they believe in many types of demons/evil spirits. My reply was directed in a very general manner, I stated, "Spirit= Paranormal being, this could be a Ghost (non-physical part of a human being...some may call it the soul) OR a non-human entity that has manifested in the physical realm. Spirit (in my opinion) is a very generic term that covers either
