About this ebook

"Remember when the world was a canvas and I was your brush? Together we would create a dream. My desolate soul is lost in the dirty water of your colours".

Ahead is Light is a collection of painful, heart searing and sometimes blissfully rapturous poetry and prose by captivating poet and author Sue Eastwood. The poems are honest, emotional outpourings from her soul, written during a tumultuous period in her life. Like life, the collection resonates moments of vulnerability and fear of falling deep, yet she takes you there with her. Wounded and at times lost, Ahead is Light shows us the way towards finding peace and love at the end of the tunnel.

Ahead is Light - Sue Eastwood

    Acknowledgments

Everyone that has ever come and gone from my life has left an imprint. You taught me something about myself.

I would be amiss without mentioning my loving family.

My two boys, Alex and Kyle. You are the sunshine in my heart and what I am proudest of. Your love was the light that kept me going when it was dark all around.

I also thank my parents, for their constant support, love and belief in me.

You taught me first, that anything is possible.

    Foreword

I feel like my entire life can be summed up by the word serendipity. I love that word. Things do not always go to plan, random and unexpected things happen. And each time, some unexpected good comes from it.

This collection, is some of that unexpected good.

I often wish that I could go back in time, knowing what I do now, and save myself some grief. But what fun would that be? There is sweet satisfaction in finding that moment of awareness and suddenly seeing the same thing differently.

My creativity, like so many other people, flows from pain. A silent scream, composed with the stroke of a key. It became a way to document that this really happened and that I really felt this way. It was my method to measure progress, by looking back at these poems, and remembering that moment in the past, that place that I was in. To not be there anymore, and to look back with compassion upon myself, is complicated. I am glad that I went through what I have, yet I do not wish to ever go through it again. This is my gentle, beautifully wrapped reminder.

First, I share with you the lessons that I learned, to bold and highlight that nothing was in vain. So that when you read the prose, it is the backstory. There are highs and lows, instability and longing. Betrayal and heartbreak.

I braced myself and I saw the good in what was available in those moments of despair.
