Q I want to add shadow gaps to my kitchen extension. Should I add shadow gaps in the adjoining dining room and living area for consistency? EDIE, SWANSEA

There are several types of shadow gaps, including plasterboard shadow gaps [example shown above] and panelling shadow gaps. This device can also be used as a way of finishing cupboard doors, with a shadow gap all the way around the flush closing door.

If you are intending to finish your newly plasterboarded kitchen extension with a shadow gap plasterbead that divides your flush fitted skirting board and wall face, then it is important to tie it in with your existing dining room and living space in some way.
