About this ebook
Lucy is a nice person. But even nice people, when pushed to their limits, struggle with maintaining that niceness: So when Lucy’s best friend goes missing and the guy responsible kidnaps her, too, she isn’t just going to take that lying down. Lucy is determined to figure out what happened to Piper — and what this strange Asa character has to do with all of it.
Asa’s not like other guys. He’s super strong, incredibly fast, and, apparently, allergic to the sun. As Lucy tries to uncover the secrets he’s holding, including what happened to Piper, she stumbles upon something she never thought could be true: that maybe Asa isn’t the bad guy after all.
This short contemporary paranormal romance is the second in the Penbrooke Ridge series.

Eternally Yours - Imogen Markwell-Tweed
Eternally Yours
Lucy is a nice goddamn person. She’s spent her entire life creating goodness and spreading kindness and, generally, going the hell out of her way to be considerate. She is a nice person even under great pressure. Like when her ex-boyfriend broke up with her because he thought her approach to politics was too people-minded,
whatever that means, and she nodded politely and gathered all his stuff in a recyclable box and sent him on his way. Or when her chemistry partner in undergrad cheated off her all semester. She kept her nose in her own business and ignored it because, hey, people have bad times, and it wasn’t like the girl was a chem major. Even when under great personal strain, Lucy prides herself on always managing to be nice.
Which is why this moment, furiously hunting for a knife with the full intent to use it in a stabby kind of way, is a little out of character for her.
Then again, Lucy is ninety-eight percent sure this asshole killed her best friend, so she’s absolutely not feeling bad about it.
She finds big scissors which, considering her limited options, will have to be good enough. She grasps them firmly in her fist and spins to face the tall, looming figure.
"Back the hell up!" Her voice only quivers a little bit. She’s definitely writing that in her gratitude journal when she gets home.
She wields the scissors pointedly. She’s earned six college credits in self defense and she’ll be damned if this asshole gets a step closer…
And then the scissors are out of her hands. Before she can scream, she’s on a couch with her hands beneath her thighs and the guy is in the doorway to a room she’s positive she hasn’t seen yet.
Her heart hammers in her chest. How did she get here? How — he moved so fast. He moved so fast. She can’t think or breathe or…
Please calm down,
the man says.
Lucy’s jaw drops. Excuse me!?
He pinches the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes. The scissors are nowhere to be seen. Lucy very, very lightly lifts herself off the couch.
And then he’s right there, hand on her shoulder, pushing her back down with such intense force that she yelps in surprise and pain. His hand snaps back as he takes three long steps backward.
"What the hell?"
The man’s mouth twitches but almost as quickly, he smothers the expression. Lucy’s still terrified, she knows that, but her righteous anger has been replaced with confusion. She can’t make heads nor tails of this.
She woke a few minutes ago in a strange man’s house after following him from a distance. She’d been displeased, obviously, but trying to track the man you think murdered your best friend comes with dangerous territory.
Piper’s been gone for six days. The flower shop has been closed because Lucy can’t track her and run the place, and even though the cops insist that Piper’s probably just playing hooky, Lucy knows she would never leave her shop closed this long.
Piper’s gone. And Lucy’s pretty damn sure this guy is the one who took her.
"Where is she?" She manages to slam a lot of her anger into just a few syllables.
The man runs his hands down his face, ignoring her. He looks… put upon. Annoyed. As if she’s inconveniencing him. He kidnapped her!
Lucy jumps up and takes a half step back, the couch blocking any further movement. This time he does not force her to sit, just eyes her with disdain.
Don’t make me knock you out,
he warns.
Lucy swallows. There’s a bit of panic flaring in her hands, her muscles twitch, but there’s no fight without the scissors and no flight when the guy is Usain frigging Bolt. She crosses her arms.
Where. Is. Piper?
Maybe this is a misunderstanding. Maybe he’s Piper’s secret lover and things are totally fine.
His face darkens. Lucy takes a step back, only to fall onto the couch. His every footstep, closing the space between them, his feet thudding like the heartbeat in her chest. He hovers over her and glares. She notices, for the first time, that he looks… wrong.
There’s something about his face that is off. Too clear, too smooth, too pale. His eyes are so dark, nearly black. He’s so still. An unmoving wall as he stands over her. Lucy’s entire body screams inside as she freezes, a deer caught between headlights and hunter.
Don’t ask questions,
he says sharply. The words ring in her ears. Lucy feels a part of herself nodding, agreeing immediately. Not if you don’t really want the answers.
Dread settles low in her gut. She feels her eyes well. No.
No,
he agrees, then straightens. He smooths his hands down his shirt and, in the blink of an eye, is back to the doorway. Now, sit. Don’t make me chase you.
Lucy shifts. He narrows his eyes as she holds her breath, stilling.
There’s something off. Not that she’s ever been kidnapped by a probable serial killer before, so… okay, maybe this is actually normal. How should she know? She only watched two seasons of Criminal Minds before it got too stressful for her. She’s not exactly an expert.
She swallows. The man rolls his eyes as if he heard her.
She wasn’t expecting this kind of reaction from him. She had never heard of a serial killer being annoyed with their victims before. She almost apologizes but bites her tongue. No apologizing to murders, Lucy!
She bit too hard. She can taste blood. She grimaces and only just manages not to curse at the pain. She holds a hand to her cheek. Ow.
When Lucy looks up again, the man is gone.
For the first time since she woke up here, she’s not absolutely drunk on fear and adrenaline. She takes the moment to take in her surroundings.
