About this ebook
A special feature is that of suggesting ways in which visiting musicians can support and liaise with schools to enhance the music curriculum.
'Bubbles' includes activities to: develop children's beat and rhythms skills; promote simple ways of recording beats, rhythms and ensembles; act as composing starting points and through composition develop presentation, performance, and listening and appraising skills.
Activities develop through the book from simple ideas for children of around 4 years old, to the end of KS2 (11 year olds).

ABOUT THIS BOOK
‘Bubbles’ is one of a series of booklets which develop activities in a progressive way. They suggest ideas for liaison between school staff and Visiting Musicians.
The focus of these materials is developing awareness of, and ability to maintain a steady beat and rhythm, whilst supporting children in reading simple notation.
TIPS FOR MUSIC SESSIONS
Ensure music is practical. Play/Sing more, and talk less.
Incorporate lots of mini-plenaries for groups to share progress.
Promote discussion about work in progress and through evaluations of others’ progress.
Ask open questions.
If children have veered away from the focus, (through misunderstanding or inventiveness), evaluate the ‘worth’ of their offering. A mistake or misinterpretation may be valuable, an interesting change of focus – or it might indicate a need to get back on track.
Make space in the room. Have a system for quickly clearing away furniture. Lack of space is often a cause of frustration
