I started writing this kind of poetry during my Sophomore year of college in Amherst, Mass. It was in the evening and I was spending time with a friend who, at that point, was hosting a radio show. I’m really not sure what possessed me to do this. There was this student-run zine called The Omen that was an open access publication. Knowing that the group published anything students submitted to them, I wanted to write something just incredibly ridiculous. So, having half of an idea in my head, I sat down and wrote Pandemic in the Colossus
to the sweet sounds of Cattle Decapitation. I showed the poem to my friends and they thought it was hilarious (mostly because it was riddled with inside jokes- hence the diamonds for diamonds
.)
From that point forward, I have dedicated my life towards developing my craft and poetic voice…
...yeah I didn’t even fool you there; I just continued writing this stuff from time to time, making the content a little bit more intentional. Though my process of developing word combinations and metering
