About this ebook

BERL1N - A Photographic Experience, is the exploration of Berlin, Germany by Australian photographer 'theintentionalinstant'.

A photo book in eBook format, containing 102 photographs (with annotations, explanations and commentary), the book makes sense of the huge city of Berlin through seven themes (Abstracts, Street, Berliners, Graffiti / Art, Landscapes, Berlin on Rails, Architecture).

BERL1N - A Photographic Experience takes the reader through an experience of Berlin as an unknown, beginning with an Abstract look at Berlin as a completely foreign city, through to its Street presence, learning more about Berliners themselves, appreciating the Graffiti and Art of the city, appreciating more of Berlin through its Landscapes, grasping its excellent transit system and considering its past present and future through its Architecture.

BERL1N - A Photographic Experience is (to completely misquote JFK) for all citizens of the world, wherever they may live, to become a citizen of Berlin!

    NOTES ON USING THIS EBOOK

Thank you for purchasing this eBook. You will notice that this eBook is different from most other text based (novel) eBooks in that it is presented as a series of text with images. This eBook has been designed to emulate the feel of a photobook within the limitations of this eBook format.

The photographic experience in this book is divided into seven themes - Abstracts, Street, Berliners, Graffiti / Art, Landscapes, Berlin on Rails and Architecture. You can use the eBook Table of Contents to easily navigate between these themes and directly to individual photographs.

The text descriptions of each photograph are presented in standard free flow e-book format in which you can control the font and size of the text. Following the text are the photographs which are best viewed by making the image full size by tapping the screen and then using the pinch and zoom function to explore the image (some eReaders may not support this function).

Images in this book are presented in both portrait and landscape modes and at times you may wish to rotate your device to take advantage of the best orientation for the particular image.

Some devices allow the user to select a 'night mode' which turns the white spaces to black. Additionally some devices enable a 'scrolling' function instead of the default page turning mode. Some users may prefer one or both of these combinations to enhance the experience presented in this book.

The images themselves were originally created with much higher resolution than possible to present in this eBook. In order to preserve responsive functionality for the eBook the images were reduced in size.

    INTRODUCTION

Berlin, Capital of Germany, home to 3.4 million people. Focus of modern history; World War II, the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Reunification of Germany.

But what is Berlin like now? A city looking back, forwards or standing still?

I came to Berlin in late 2012 and spent just over one year documenting the Berlin experience for this book - lured like so many others
