    Prologue

W-where... Helev Audiuste managed to stutter before the glaring brightness of the room and the furious pounding of her skull overwhelmed her.

Quitorias Institute, Illuma. A muffled voice said.

Illuma? Wha... but? How did I end up in Illuma? Helev thought to herself through her staggering headache.

As she struggled to remember how she had ended up in a prestigious hospital on the other side of the planet, Helev attempted to move her arms to comfort her aching head. A piercing jolt shot through her right arm as she began to raise it, sending her mind reeling through her recent memories.

    Flashing lights.

    Pulsing music.

    Liquid euphoria.

    Gorgeous view.

    Wild Dancing.

Helev gasped as the memory ended abruptly, leaving her staring up at the bright ceiling and once again feeling the sharp stinging in her arm. All the while, the contents of her quickly vanishing memory jabbed at her mind.

She vaguely recalled having gone out to a house party in Argiva with her friends. But the rest of the night was an indistinguishable blur. Though she did not particularly care to uncover what had happened given her current situation.

Yes, I'd advise against excessive movement in your damaged arm for the next hour. That should be enough time for the nanites to finish their work. The voice – which must have belonged to the nurse who was in charge of her – stated from somewhere beyond her field of vision.

Great. Helev winced back sarcastically, not bothering to keep her thoughts to herself. The knowledge that she would recover quickly had removed some of the worry from her mind but still left the most important question unanswered.

So how did I end up here? She asked commandingly. It would be much easier than attempting to recall what had happened from her scattered memories in her opinion.
