Chapter 1

The parents, kids and mindfulness

Children are beautiful agents in the care of their parents. They are not only the products of the union of both the man and the woman, which leads to the biological production of the replica of these two individuals. What the children are being taught or shown in practicality, psychologically, emotionally, socially, and the likes seem to stick quickly because they have no prior experiences they can bank on and act on as basis. They are thus like an open door receptive to almost everything coming from their parents, their environment, and ultimately the society. And this is the reason why the parents must be cautious and, at the same time, be knowledgeable on how to manage their offspring starting from the infancy –a crucial period of their lives.

Meanwhile, have you been longing for how you can have a good understanding of how to be mindful of your kids as a parent? That is good if the response to that question is affirmative, but in case you don't know, or you just don't care about that, it is terrible and would soon boomerang on the household soon enough. It is proper, as a parent, to admit that being mindful of the offspring is quite paramount. So, how often do you discover yourself being more aware of what happened yesterday, and what would likely transpire tomorrow in the lives of your kids? Why are you not concentrating on what is going on at the moment already? Look, lackadaisical attention to some vital key points in the parenting technique from the onset with the kids, most importantly, in their infancy would most likely continue to prevent you from enjoying good moments with the kids in question. However, this situation could be averted with being conscious enough already if you, as a parent, could at this moment begin to regard the powerful techniques inherent in mindfulness. This chapter has been dedicated to the effect of familiarizing you with the art of mindfulness and how it can help you in your daily life with your children.

Mindfulness is simply about being conscious at the moment. Something that you, as a parent, could enjoy at times. Not only for yourself but also for your children. As a parent, have you ever wondered what makes children wake up happy every morning with an instant desire to get up and get started already? The reason behind that is that they don't have worries as you an adult do today, and it is not like they care about what happened yesterday either. They just simply have an appetite for life as long as they are not crying basically. Mindfulness is a concept that would aid you in noticing realities around their worlds just like that.

How mindfulness came into being

Mindfulness has been regarded as a tradition rooted in Buddhism and could be traced to several thousands of years back. In all its simplicity, it means being conscious of the moment for that is exactly when life happens. Life momentary, it doesn't happen yesterday and tomorrow –it only happens today, now. This is a way of thinking that is incredibly necessary and useful when you spend time with your children. They are the first ones to feel, and to bear the consequence, if your mind is not aligned at the moment or when you spend time together.

The truth is, just as we all have been kids at some point in our lives, we could still recollect those feelings of infancy somehow deep down our psyche. Those tender days, of course, saw us into the person each of us is at the moment. There are even moments we wished life was that simple now that we have garnered experiences as adults, don't we? This is probably because the ability to be aware of the moments when our parents were with us made the time more enjoyable for us. If you wish your children to have such an exciting experience, it is vital to let them enjoy what you enjoyed then by being mindful. Most notably, as a new parent, this would be hard always – to be present as you are constantly loaded with things you could do better as a new parent(s). You are told to do things this way or another one, and you are often tussling with doing things the way you were taught - instead of listening to your feelings.

How to Leverage Mindfulness in your life as a parent?

We have all tried those taxing mornings where the kids have to be ready to leave the house, but everything got off on a wrong foot. Haven't you yet experienced such? That moment you find yourself in the act of trying to counterbalance what would easily end up in stress and frustration. You need to get ready, get the children ready, pack bags, and other necessaries, and get out of the house on time for school and work. One child spills the milk on the rug, and the other doesn't want to get dressed in time (could you imagine that?). And the clock keeps ticking. You get so stressed and irritated, the kids start crying and screaming at the same time, and in the end, you feel like giving up. By now, anybody would naturally be stressed and grumpy - and late! Whose fault, or is it? The kids or yours? Who is creating frustration? Are you trying to do way too much at the same time? Don't worry - it happens to us all.

In such a state, mindfulness could be a great help, don't you think? Here, it pertains to letting go of all the things you want to do and end up doing half, which results in frustration. It is all about creating focus. If you focus on one thing at a time instead of focusing on what comes next, then you would be able to do things better and faster as you fully put your energy into what you are doing at the moment how? If you constantly think about what should be done afterward, then you will not be able to perform well in what is right at the moment.

Your mindfulness about your children is about looking beneath the actions and the words and concentrating on their needs, their intentions, and their challenges in life. It is about overseeing the current situation and understanding what the cause is and react accurately. Ask yourself the following questions: what
