    CHAPTER  1

Gee I wish you could talk. What’s the point of telling all my secrets you don’t give me any advice? You know all my secrets. Even more than Donna does. Talking to her mirror was Cathy’s way of letting off steam. And did she need it? After spending a fruitless night in the company of a wannabe writer who had asked her out for dinner only to pick her brains for tips and plot ideas. Cathy really wasn’t in the mood for any more disappointments. When she had grabbed herself a cup of coffee and buttered some toast to nibble on, she headed into her study. Maybe there is some good news to be found there.

Her mirror had told her what she had always known. She did have an hourglass figure. But a three hour one. Not a one-hour or maybe a two-hour one like the catwalk models had. Hers was sitting on a full size twelve. Maybe a fourteen sometimes. With a double D at the top and matching curvy hips further down. She stood at hundred and eighty centimetres straight out of the shower. She thought she looked pretty good. Even if she was bigger than most women. To her she still had an hourglass. Her regular trips to the gym and long runs along the tan helped her to maintain.

Despite the fact that she had finished the last chapter of her newest BBW romance novel Cathy wasn’t looking forward to anything much, really. So opening the email from the private investigator that she had hired to try and locate even one person she might be related to didn’t bring her any joy. When she’d opened and read the message from the investigator, she knew that once more she was  still an orphan. Not only an orphan, but one who was truly alone in the world.

When her mother Theresa had passed away late last year, the last thing that her mother had said to her was her father’s name. Until then, Cathy had never known what it was. Her mother never spoke of him, never told her his name or why he had never been around. For the entire 35 years of her life, it had only been Cathy and her mother.

Cathy wasn’t complaining. Her mother had done everything she could to make their lives happy. She’d had a good job with an accounting firm in Lane Cove. Cathy had been encouraged to remain in school as long as she had wanted to. Which hadn’t suited Cathy because she had always been the big girl in the class. The one the in-girls ridiculed. She had never been overweight or anything like that. She was just big. Even now in her mid-thirties, she still needed to look on the plus-size racks to find clothes that fit comfortably.

These days, she was earning very good royalties from her books, so she was able to be a bit more selective in the clothes she chose to wear. Mostly these those she chose to wear store versions of the Liliana Brandon range. These were designs actually created by Liliana Brandon herself and were based on her couturier designs. Cathy always felt comfortable wearing them because they had been designed with people like her in mind.

After filing away the latest message from the private investigator, she sent him a message thanking him for his time and effort and ending their association. Since he had enclosed his account with his email message, she transferred payment and then sat back pondering her next activity.

This new activity was something arranged by her agent. It involved her flying down to Melbourne and then across to the South Australian country city of Mount Gambier. From there she would have to catch a drone over to a little town called Dunkeld that was in the Wannon Rise Resume. Her agent arranged for her to do a book signing in a new store called The Bookcase which specialised in BBW novels like the ones she wrote. She understood that the owner of The Bookcase was an ex-army Warrant Officer who like herself was a tall and curvy woman who
