It’s getting increasingly common for big-game hunters heading to Africa to go without firearms. This allows them to avoid many of the more challenging aspects of travel. Further, it’s pretty easy to borrow a rifle from your outfitter, spend half an hour shooting it at the range, and feel confident you can shoot it well enough to hunt with. The same just isn’t true with shotguns.
Unlike scoped rifles, that are relatively easy to become accustomed to, proper fit of a shotgun is critical if you’re going to wingshoot well. Quite simply, if the shotgun you’re shooting doesn’t fit you, you’re in for a frustrating time when you take it
