    Plastic-free living is no new trend, but already for several decades a topic, which is discussed in the retail trade, among environmentalists and world do-gooders. For decades, people have been fighting against mountains of rubbish and the topic of recycling and waste avoidance has been on the agenda for a long time. The fact is that dealing with plastic is a central issue in our everyday lives because we deal with plastic on a daily basis and have many plastic objects in operation every day. The packaging waste generated in a week often filled more than one yellow sack. The question we ask ourselves is whether this waste should not actually be reduced or avoided. Plastic waste that does not arise in the first place does not have to be disposed of and recycled. The annoying thing about plastic waste is that it pollutes both the landscape and the seas. The damage caused is not only visual but also natural. Sea animals can die by absorbing plastic remains and the pollution of the oceans by plastic waste ultimately leads to littering of the beaches, which are visited by tourists in summer.

    Another question is how we can reduce the consequences of plastic waste in the home and in the environment. Household waste is a nuisance and must be disposed of. We can also be concerned about whether so much plastic waste is really needed and whether it cannot be regulated by conscious furnishing and purchasing behaviour. Garbage that does not arise in the first place is the best way to deal with plastic garbage. In this ebook, you can learn different ways to avoid plastic waste in the home and when travelling, and how to use materials that are not petroleum-based. This is primarily about outer packaging, but also about the contents of soaps and shampoos and the use of detergents for washing laundry made of natural cleaning agents.

    A small step, for example, is to think about transporting your purchases before going to the supermarket. The choice of goods is also crucial, as it avoids the need for cumbersome outer packaging directly on the supermarket shelf. Thinking holistically about plastic packaging gives pleasure and more meaning to life. Who really decides to live plastic-free or at least to avoid plastic, shows itself as a protector of the environment and secures the habitats for future generations.

    Research shows that customers are generally aware that plastic is harmful and that it is better to buy goods that do not need much outer packaging.

    Living plastic-free can be an enrichment for the whole family and can also have a positive impact on attitudes.

    Introductory remarks

    Plastic-free living - is that even possible these days? This is an important question that many people are concerned with. Plastic does not only harm our environment, but ultimately also ourselves. Accordingly, many people have been dealing with the subject of how they can reasonably live plastic-free for years. In this book you will find explanations of the dangers of plastic and a brief outline of the history of plastics.

    It will also show you how to start saving and replacing plastic. Ultimately, however, it is important that everyone does something about it. The easiest way, of course, is to do without plastic as much as possible. You will see that this step with the right tips and tricks is not that difficult. Yes, what is plastic anyway?

    Plastic is synonymous with petroleum-based plastics. These have influenced and penetrated our everyday life in the last 70 years like probably no 2nd product.

    Microplastics in our environment and floating garbage islands in our oceans, the topic of plastics has increasingly moved into the public focus.

    This book aims to provide background information on plastics, how plastic affects our daily lives, and how we can avoid plastic. The goal should be a life without plastic or at least to live largely plastic-free, in order to also leave a livable, unpolluted blue planet to the following generations.

    What is plastic?

    Plastic is a colloquial term. A better term that describes this substance class is plastic. Plastic mainly stands for three different plastics. These are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In addition, there are many other types of plastics. The question you should ask yourself accordingly is rather what plastic is at all.

    Plastics are substances which are produced chemically. One also uses the term synthesized for it. They consist of so-called macromolecules. Molecules are atomic compounds and atoms are the smallest building blocks that make up everything in our universe. Complicated chemical processes are used to produce plastics. In most cases, the raw material for these processes is so-called crude oil. Most people will be familiar with petroleum. The basic structure of crude oil is changed in the series of chemical processes so that plastic can be produced. This plastic is then used in numerous areas, such as medicine
