Jenna Bush Hager’s final book club pick of 2019 is this indie darling from Margaret Renkl. “It’s beautiful and it is a slower pace but I kind of loved that at the end of the year. We end with something slow and reflective and gorgeous,” Hager said in the announcement. Renkl wrote this book about her mother’s life soon after her death.

“Good Morning America” selected the sequel to “Children of Blood and Bone” as the show’s December Cover to Cover book club pick. “The captivating fantasy, infused with rich West African culture, digs deep past the boundaries of imagination with a strong woman character at the helm,” anchor Robin Roberts said in the announcement.

Whose Story Is This?: Old Conflicts, New Chapters

    Rebecca Solnit
This month, Emma Watson picked a pair of Rebecca Solnit works for her book club, Our Shared Shelf. The first is Solnit’s latest, “Whose Story is This?” “Solnit … strikes me as someone who has made total peace with her role of what some might call being ‘antagonising’ in order to do the very important work of telling the truth or getting as close as we can to it, with all the possible bias and participation mystique,” Watson writes of the feminist author on the Goodreads announcement post. The other pick is Solnit’s “Cinderella Liberator.”

The other selection for Emma Watson’s book club for November and December is “Cinderella Liberator,” a short children’s book from Rebecca Solnit. It is, as one might expect from the title, a feminist retelling of the classic Cinderella story.

Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man's Fight for Justice

    Bill Browder
Former NFL quarterback Andrew Luck selected “Red Notice” as his final book club pick of 2019. Written like a gripping thriller novel, Bill Browder’s account of exposing deep corruption in Russia and his unfailing will to fight against Vladimir Putin’s regime proves that sometimes fact is far stranger than fiction.

Over the holidays, author John Green and literary critic Rosianna Halse Rojas have their book club reading the classic children’s novel “Howl’s Moving Castle.” If you’ve only ever seen the whimsical Hayao Miyazaki adaptation, you’re in for a delight with the original series.
