HFO Separator Unit

Introduction:
HFO separator is a mechanical device which is used to separate unwanted liquid and solid particle from HFO. HFO separator works on the basis of centrifugal force. This centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the bowl (rotor). This rotation generates hundred or thousand times of earths gravity. When liquid or particles of different specific gravity enters to the bowl, the different centrifugal force acts on them. Liquid or particle having higher specific gravity faces higher centrifugal force and moves away from the Centre. So heavier liquid and particles move toward the periphery of the bowl and collected into sludge space. This heavier liquid and particles are known as sludge which is discharged from the bowl by opening sludge port.

Different components of HFO separator:

1 Feed 2 Discharge 3 Disk stacks 4 Hydro hermetic feed system 5 Cooling, hood 6 Solids ejection ports 7 Annular valve 8 Discharge nozzle 9 Cooling, solid catcher 10 Pre-filling chamber 11 Nozzle 12 Operating water discharge 13 Sealing liquid discharge 14 Slide-ring packing 15 Leakage outlet 16 Sealing liquid feed 17 Sliding piston 18 Closing chamber 19 Feed, solids catcher cooling 20 Discharge, solid catcher cooling 21 Feed, cooling 22 Centripetal pump 23 Discharge, hood cooling

Working process of HFO separator:

The separation process takes place into the rotor. Rotor (bowl) rotates at a very high speed. Unclarified HFO enters into the rotor through HFO inlet. This HFO flows through the inlet pipe and fed into the rising channel. Here HFO splits up over a large number of disk interspaces. Rotor (bowl) rotates at a very high speed and this rotation creates a higher g-force. So, due to high density solids stream work against conical disk and slide to the sludge holding space. Sludge is collected in the sludge holding space. The periodically activated sliding piston opens a gap to discharge the collected sludge. Sliding piston closes hydraulically after discharging sludge so that again sludge can be collected in sludge holding space. Clarified liquid streams to a central discharge channel towards the centripetal pump. The centripetal pump is stationary and the liquid rotates. The clarified liquid is discharged under pressure through the discharge line. Discharged HFO send to the day tank and discharged sludge reserved in sludge tank which is washed away by flowing water through a sludge tank.

Operation procedure:
To start separation process:
At first feed pump should be started, and then the steam valve should be opened slowly and should remain waited till the temperature reaches to 85C. At this time the separator frequency should be set at 34-37 Hz and feed pump Up/Down button in touch screen display should be pressed. Now after starting the separator should be remain waited till the speed becomes 6800 r.p.m and ready signal is given. Now program should be turned on. At this time flow rate and pressure should be checked. They might be at 13 m3/h and 2 bar respectively. If the pressure is not at 2 bar then it needs to be set at 2 bar. Thats all to start a separation process. To stop separation process: At first program off button in display should be pressed and should remain waited for ready signal. Then separator and feed pump should be stopped respectively. Then steam valve should be closed as soon as possible. Thats all to stop separation process.
