TEACHING EXPERIENCE
R.S.U. 5 Durham Community School Durham, Maine August 2011-Present Literacy Intervention, Journalism (Grades 3-8) Provided daily small group literacy instruction to at-risk students. Lessons were targeted for students specific needs with regards to fluency, reading comprehension, decoding/encoding skills and phonemic development. Instructed grades 7 and 8 students in a journalism class, in which students were led through the journalistic process of developing a story. Students were taught research and writing skills based on journalistic principles. Students were responsible for writing a cohesive article and its accompanying page layout for a magazine that was published for the school and community. Led two after school three weeklong book groups. Students came to the group prepared to discuss plot, characters and make connections to other work and personal lives. Led one after school three weeklong writing groups. The first week student embarked on an adventure and the final two weeks, students wrote about the adventure using several different writing techniques as taught to the group. Friends School of Portland Falmouth, Maine Aug. 2010- Aug. 2011 Spanish Teacher (Grades 6-8) Develop lessons that are in keeping with the school mission of emphasizing high standards for independent thinking and personal integrity. Formed student reading groups, while using various graphic organizers, to assist students in successfully

reading a chapter books titled, Pobre Ana. Students then re-wrote the book into a screen play and made a short film. Initiated a language buddies program in which older kids make books of newly acquired target language to share and teach lower grades. Lyman Moore Middle School Portland, Maine Sept. 2005 Aug. 2010 Spanish Teacher (Grades 6-8) Developed and implemented comprehensive lessons plans while using the language acquisition methods: Total Physical Response (TPR) and Teaching Proficiency Through Reading & Storytelling (TPRS). Integrated multicultural units covering Spain and the Americas on topics ranging from Geography of Spanish-speaking nations to food and lifestyles to ancient South American cultures and the history of the Panama Canal. Libra Foundation Portland, Maine Nov. 2001 May 2004 Administrative Assistant Administered more than 40 employees medical/life benefit and retirement plan packages as well as maintaining biweekly payroll for Pineland Farms, Inc. (a subsidiary project of the Foundation). Facilitated and coordinated several departments regarding marketing, media and public relations. Wrote press releases, designed brochures and created educational materials for Pineland Farms, Inc. programs. Assisted Vice Presidents in legal and accounting matters. Handled recording Pineland Farms Inc.s daily accounts payable and receivables. Also maintained contact with state officials regarding ongoing registration and legislation matters in congruence with the Foundations goals.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have lived in Kristiansand, Norway; Montezuma, Costa Rica; and Prague, Czech Republic. I make a point of traveling internationally at least once a year. I keep an extensive vegetable garden on my ten-acre farm. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, writing and spending time with my flat-coated retriever named Oslo.
