Learning Objectives (WALT): To be able to identify current technology that they have in their own homes To understand how technology in the home will change over the next 10-15 years To be able to identify some technology that might appear in homes of the future Intended Learning Outcomes (WILF): All must be able to: list a variety of technologies that they have within their own home Most should be able to: be able to identify some new technologies that we might see in our homes in the next 10-15 years Some could: be able to explain the possible impacts that future technology in our homes might have upon our daily lives, work, families and health. Teacher led discussion - Technologies Include (5 mins): Fridge that knows what is in it Fridge knows the expiry dates of all food inside Kitchen bench which is ergonomic and adjust itself to the correct height for the user Kitchen bench knows what food has been placed on top of it Plate with a microchip which can give recommended recipes depending on the food placed on it. E-table giant iPod which controls the entire room Swipe the table with your mobile phone to access messages, music and photographs Send photograph to frames on the wall Entire wall changes to suit music selected Widgets in childrens bedroom Worlds flattest flat screen TV On wall games and language lessons Check text messages in the bath Fill bath automatically to preferred depth and temperature Teacher instructions - Introduction to the Unit (5 mins): For the next few weeks you will thinking about what types of technology might be around in the future (perhaps the next 10-15yrs) Task: Logon to computers and create a new folder in your Year 7 ICT folder called; "Technology in the Future" Save "L1 Smart Homes Worksheet" from Moodle into your Technology folder. Technology and the home of the future Think about your home. You are surrounded by technology, much of which was unheard of even a decade ago. Yet this technology is now such an important part of our everyday lives that most of us couldnt begin to imagine a life without it. TASK 1 (5 mins): List some of the technology that you currently have in your home. TASK 2 (15 mins): Undertake some research and find out what kind of technology might be in our homes in around 10 years time. Plenary ( 5 mins): Compare your research with the person you're sitting next to and try to add at least one new idea. Exit ( 2.5 mins) Differentiation (related to Learning Outcomes) Support for Less Able: Help pupils to perform task of the day by providing Teach-ICT web-links. G&T: Think about the impact that this future technology might have upon our daily lives, our work, our families and our health. Write a paragraph below explaining what effects we might possibly see.
