I agree with Norman Cousins, he said Genuine peace means progress toward a freer and more just world.

(Cortright, 7). Everyone has different perspectives on a just world. So I think if we all stick to this definition, we will have peace in some degree. The word progress sticks out in this definition for the reason that peace doesnt just happen overnight but it takes time for everyone to adjust and argue a little bit. I also agree with the term pacifism. Which is a term that developed beliefs for preventing war and assuring peace. I believe that war solves nothing. When another country has a disagreement with someone else they get mad and kill people. September 11 is a great example. We didnt agree with Iraq and the beliefs they had so we decided to go to war. Now we are just killing people over there, but thats what they did to us and we got mad. The first peace societies in Europe are interesting. I think that the unfolding of new technology and industry would create problems. Everyone is trying to get what is new and all the companies are copying each other, making the same product but different brand names and modifications. Also, religion is a problem because everyone has a different religion meaning that everyone has different perspectives on what is good or bad. The concept of antislavery connects with progress towards a freer and more just world. Also, Burritts thoughts about pacifism connect to my thoughts about the meaning of peace. The term peace means something different to everyone. History has taught us lessons and we need to learn from them. Also, everyone has different views on things so past experiences and mistakes will help us find a center point and try to agree.
