* culture is nt any hard n fast rule,,changes r law of nature,,so if indian want to adopt sm good things of western ,,so its totally acceptable.. * western culture has various practices n knowledge which r very important to update our knowledge with this fast changing world * adopting the good practices of any culture is always fruitful * .sending parents to old age home is not a western thing...its by nature..if it is amoral to send parents to oldage homes then y r they set up...there shdnt b ne old age home in our country. Against (Bad) * There is a big diffrence between modernisation and westernisation.People wear Jeans, Tshirts, Gals wear short skirts, tops, jeans etc and feel that they are modernisation... wat they are doing is Westernisation - copying what people are doing there... this is not modernisation...Modernisation takes place in Mind rather than in clothes..... * adopting western culture is bad, I say that its good if we adopt the goood things of that.. Copy their way of living, their way of conducting themselves * * Adopt the culture but dont forget ur own culture.... like the people rarely care for the old ones' there, albiet we do, but nowadays people are getting busy and they are adopting the means of keeping their old parents in Old Age Home, which is not our culture Conclusion * Adopting the wetern culture is not a problem but one should be very carefull whatever they are adopting is good or bad as per the current social standars * Just copying western culture wont work .We should find out the pitfalls of our culture and try to reomve them like dowery etc * One's personal freedom always matters. It's his own choice to adopt or not. * How there is head and tail for a coin, there is both positive and negative impact of western culture on India and especially on Indian youth, * In past in India men were our traditional dresses,...

Advertising is almost comparable to hegemony. Hegemony is essentially leadership and that leadership or hegemonic power in the way of advertising is creating an image that people are seeking out. It affects our culture and dictates what consumers want. Hegemony is based on a persons consent to domination. In other words, we will sometimes act against our own best interests because of the power of symbols to convince us to do so. Advertisers do not do so through coercion but through constant nudging towards a certain brand that they are endorsing. In the United States a strong example of this hegemonic power only of the political type is flag hanging. If the President of the United States threatened to put to death Americans who did not hang flags from their homes, that president would be overthrown. However, plenty of Americans hang flags from their homes willingly and happily, and this is an everyday behaviour that helps the government remain in power. This is similar to people who willing wear brand name clothing with the brands logo clearly visible. These actions keep cultures consuming a wide array of products while allowing companies to enforce their morals, values and ideals onto an unsuspecting society. Throughout this essay I will show examples of everyday behaviours that keep political government in power and other everyday behaviours that keep corporations in power through patriarchy and gender role stereotyping. With these examples the influence advertisers and media has on culture will be evident. Including the flag hanging example there are many everyday behaviours that keep governments in power. They are the previously mentioned flags hanging from peoples homes, people rising and removing their hats when the national anthem is sung, and people celebrating a countrys Independence Day or birthdays with parades and picnics. By executing these day to day actions it... For my cultural event my boyfriend and I took a day and went to the drag races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This was a very interesting event to attended not only because it was fun. It helped me to understand the culture of motor sports were they originated and were they are going in the future. We got to talk to some of the members to the National Hot Rod Association Hall of Fame who were there to tell us about what the sport was like in the 1950s till today. Learning about something that is new to me or anyone else is a great way to expand your knowledge. This type of event fits into our society especially south because it has become a past time of many people. Growing up in the south I remember cars always being a big part of my dads life and still to this day he is still working on the automobiles that sit in our drive way. A man named

Henry Ford who produced the Model T Ford, invented cars here in the USA. So Muscle cars and the speed fit into the American mold nicely.

According to the Atlanta Motor Speedway there was almost 40,000 people in the stands that day and it seemed like everyone was enjoying there day. I also enjoyed the day even though I only went because it was a free ticket. I had a wonderful time learning the difference between a spark plug and an oxygen sensor, and what the jobs of these parts were. Everyone in attendance including myself not only enjoyed the races but they enjoyed being able to be hands on. At the speed way you could walk up and look at the cars, touch them, and for one lucky little boy get to set in them. According to the reaction of the crowd it seemed that there favorite race all day was the one when legendary funny car racer John Force would race his daughter Ashley Force for the title of winner of the Summit Southern Nationals.

The first car race in America took place in 1895, the only requirement was that you had to have 3-wheels, run on gas, and be able to carry 2 passengers. Frank...
