UNIT 2: TRIGONOMETRY

Name: ____________________________ Due date: ________________

Objective:
M4 Develop and apply the primary trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine, tangent) to solve problems that involve right triangles.

General Instructions:
Complete one layer before going on to another layer. Each assignment has a point value based on the amount of time and effort necessary to complete that task. Be prepared to discuss and answer questions about each of your assignments. You will be awarded points based upon your ability to discuss and answer questions about your work. When appropriate, you may work with a partner or partners, but you must be able to answer the teachers questions without any assistance. When indicated, work will be submitted electronically using the appropriate form on the class website. More detailed information can be found on the individual sheets for each assignment. These will also be linked on the class website. Assignments marked with * are required. Summarize each section and complete the corresponding practice. Create a foldable (8 by 11) describing the three basic trigonometric ratios. Create a word cloud (8 by 11) using the words trigonometry, sine, cosine, and tangent. Include definitions and the etymology of each word. Research a career that uses trigonometry. Use a combination of text and images to create a poster (8 by 11) which describes how it is used. Create a summary card (cue card) which could be used as a study guide for this unit.

As an angle increases the value of its sine increases but the value of its cosine decreases. Explain why. Use diagrams to support your explanation. Without the use of a calculator, how would you know if the value of tangent was greater than or less than 1? Use diagrams to support your explanation. Can the values for sine or cosine ever be greater than 1? Use diagrams to support your explanation. Page 96 #17 Page 112 #15 Page 120 #17 Page 121 #21
