The film is held during l' winter 1944, in occupied France.

Julien who is 12 years old, wire d' a middle-class family, is boarder with the small college Saint Jean of the Cross, held by the fathers Carmelite friars. He finds the way of l' school without joy after the holidays of Christmas, for the second quarters. A re-entry almost like the others jusqu' so that the Jean father comes to introduce three new pupils. L' a d' between them, the young person Jean Bonnet, is the neighbor of dormitory of Julien. The two pupils are measured, Julien is intrigued by Jean, proud, mutic and mysterious boy a time rejected by l' together of the class. After s' to be observed mutually, they s' tame from day to day and a bond d' friendship is created between them. Julien ends up including/understanding the secrecy of his friend, his name n' is not Bonnet but Kippelstein, it is Jewish. A cold morning of January, following a denunciation, Gestapo makes irruption in the college. The Jean father, resisting clandestine, and the three Jewish children are taken along. Julien was to re-examine them never again. The children were off-set in Auschwitz and the Jean Father in Mauthausen.
Le film se droule durant l'hiver 1944, dans une France occupe. Julien qui a 12 ans, fils d'une famille bourgeoise, est pensionnaire au petit collge Saint Jean de la Croix, tenu par les pres carmes. Il retrouve le chemin de l'cole sans joie aprs les vacances de Nol, pour le second trimestre. Une rentre presque comme les autres jusqu' ce que le pre Jean vienne prsenter trois nouveaux lves. L'un d'entre eux, le jeune Jean Bonnet, est le voisin de dortoir de Julien. Les deux lves se jaugent, Julien est intrigu par Jean, garon fier, mutique et mystrieux un temps rejet par l'ensemble de la classe. Aprs s'tre observs mutuellement, ils s'apprivoisent au jour le jour et un lien d'amiti se cre entre eux. Julien finit par comprendre le secret de son ami, son nom n'est pas Bonnet mais Kippelstein, il est juif. Un froid matin de janvier, suite une dnonciation, la Gestapo fait irruption dans le collge. Le pre Jean, rsistant clandestin, et les trois enfants juifs sont emmens. Julien ne devait plus jamais les revoir. Les enfants furent dports Auschwitz et le Pre Jean Mauthausen.
