Finding multiples of fractions pg 82

Equivalent fractions fractions that are the same amount
Original fraction 7 8 *2 14 16 *3 21 24 *4

Simplest form when the numerator and pg83 denominator have no more common factors (prime?)

Simplify 12/24 12 2 = 6 24 2 = 12 66 12 6 =1 =2

Divide the numerator and denominator by a common factor (will be the same number).

If necessary, divide again by another common factor.

Can you create equivalent fractions by simplifying

Do you have any tips or ideas?

Least Common Denominator pg 88

LCD is the LCM of their denominators. Compare 3/4 and 7/10 Their LCM is 20 (reteach lcm) 3 *5= 15 7 *2= 14 4 *5= 20 10 *2 = 20 Which is greater 15/20 or 14/20
You make the LCM the denominator. What you multiply on the bottom by you have to do the same for the top.

Compare and Order pg 87 (drawings)

If the numerators (top) are the same the fraction with the smaller denominator (down) is greater. If the denominators are the same the fraction with the larger numerator is greater. You might have to create a common denominator.
Which is greater 15/20 or 14/20 ?

Mixed or Improper
Improper fraction when the numerator is the denominator Mixed number a fraction that has a whole number attached EXIT TICKET write how you go from one to the other.

Adding and Subtracting pg126 and pg130

Fractions with common denominators Add (numerator), Keep (denominator), Simplify (answer). Fractions with different denominators Find (equivalent fractions), Add (numerator), Keep (denominator), Simplify (answer)

Mixed numbers Convert to an improper fraction then solve using above steps. OR Add the whole numbers separately at the end.

Multiplying pg136
Fractions: *across, simplify Whole number: place the number over 1, *across, simplify Mixed numbers: make improper, * across, simplify.

****Simplifying diagonally within the problem (pg 137 example).

Dividing pg 141
Reciprocal is a fraction that is flipped. 7/10 and 10/7 are reciprocals of each other
Fraction: Leave, Flip, Multiply, Simplify Mixed: Improper, Leave, Flip, Multiply, Simplify
