0 Discontinuation Notice Last Update: Aug 1, 2012 Created by: Jeff Peterso n Discontinuation Notice Date: Aug 1, 2012 Product/Service Discontinuation Information The RealPOS 60 release 1.0 models are being discontinued. New release 1.1 models are being introduced. The primary changes being introduced are: higher capacity 250 GB Seagate Advanced Format Hard Disk Drive. New model with Celeron Dual Core T3100 with 250GB Hard Disk Drive and a new mode l with Celeron Dual Core T3100 with 40GB Sold State Drive (previously a single d iskless model with add-on storage features) o Model 7601-2000-8801 Celeron Dual Core T3100, Diskless is being replaced as in order to meet Energy Star requirements, the model cannot be diskless and have the storage configured via an add-on feature. The new higher capacity disk drive is also thinner in dimension (7mm Vs 9mm) tha n the previous Toshiba 160 GB Hard Disk Drive. Because of this change in thickn ess of the Hard Disk Drive, the new 1.1 cabinets will have a new bracket inside that can accommodate either dimension. Note that there is no change in the 7601-1010-8801 model with the 40GB Solid Sta te Drive. Please be aware that the dates below are targets based on current inventory posi tions. As soon as inventory is depleted of the current models, the new models w ill be available. This change is c onsistent across all HDD manufacturers and affects all POS vendors. These drive s have already been shipping to the PC market bearing the name Advanced Format whi ch was selected and approved as an industry term by the IDEMA organization. In g

eneral, this is a good thing for the industry because 4K formatted drives are mo re efficient in terms of capacity and error correction. This is because one 4K s ector saves a lot of overhead compared to the legacy 512 byte standard while sim ultaneously growing the size of the ECC (error correction codes) block to make i t more robust. This disk size change does not affect the gold drive and should h ave no impact on customer applications despite the format change. New NCR, 4k a ligned images are available but the new 4k disk will function with original imag e. Note that other RealPOS terminals such as the 80XRT, 82XRT, and 70XRT are also a lready shipping the new advanced format hard disk drives and there have not been any compatibility issues with the change. As always, we do recommend that customers test their existing image before deplo yment in a live environment. Sales & Marketing Considerations During any model transition, it is important to work closely with Demand Plannin g to forecast your customer requirements in order to reduce the potential for ex cess inventory or extended lead times. The general strategy for transition is that all current customers using generall y released RealPOS 60 release 1.0 model be transitioned to the new release 1.1 m odel. For new customer prospects: Account teams can begin to propose the RealPOS 60 Release 1.1 terminal model to all new customers beginning October 1, 2012. For customers with orders for rollout starting in 2013): Customer PBOs and Orders for new rollouts starting in 2013 should be converted t o the equivalent Release 1.1 terminal model unless the Release 1.0 model is alre ady in inventory and is allocated to the specific customer. For customers with rollouts in progress in 2012 that will continue into 2013: Customer PBOs and Orders for rollouts currently in progress with deliveries exte nding into 2013 should be converted to the equivalent Release 1.1 terminal model s. Note that Release 1.0 Terminals in production, transit, or inventory that ar e already planned for specific customers must be taken until inventory is consum ed.
