The economics paper on Wednesday for HSC commerce stream evoked smiles and frowns alike. The paper, which was almost 95% similar to that of the previous year, made students extremely happy. However, economics teachers who raised questions on the authenticity of education board and its system of taking exams, couldn't share their students' jubilation. "A majority of the paper had the same questions as last year. Questions of around 96 marks were similar to last year's paper. How will the board judge the performance of the students by bringing out the same question paper," asked a source, requesting anonymity. Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) accepted the mistake and gave a clarification stating that it was the fault of the teacher who set the paper. Speaking to DNA, principal secretary of GSHSEB, Hasmukh Adhia said, "Various paper sets are prepared by the teachers and are sent in sealed envelopes. The Board randomly selects an envelope and approves it for exam without referring to the questions inside." Thus, even after random selection, if a similar paper reaches the students, the teacher who set the paper is to be put to blame, stated the press release, which also said that strict action will be taken against the teacher. The Board has also assured that the general principles of examination have not been violated and that students will not be affected. On the other hand, students who appeared for economics exam were filled with joy. "I had prepared from the question papers of the last five years. Luckily, most of the questions I had prepared were asked. Hence, I found the paper to be very easy," shared Ashwini Mewada, student of Ganesh Vidya Mandir. AHMEDABAD: Class XII commerce students of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board were shell-shocked on Tuesday when they found economics question paper to be a 95% replica of the 2010 question paper. Even the sequence of questions was same for the sections and the only effort made by the paper setter was to change the sequence of multiple choice questions.
