Week 2 What motivated people to travel in ancient times? compare their reasons with the reasons of today's travelers. As for my understanding theory is that what motivated people to travel in ancient times is I categorize into a few themes that is 1) Prehistorically the human-sapient that people travel evolved to facilitate gathering food, escaping from predators, and to satisfy the group curiosity, inquisitiveness, and driven by different reasons so that humans began to travel. 2) During in Roman Empire Julian Caesar travel due for interest in exploring, conquer and be dominant to other countries by war. 3) In Medieval times, the most notorious travelers were pilgrims and missionaries. Driven by their religious convictions, pilgrims made dangerous journeys to places like Santiago de Compostela, Canterbury, and Jerusalem while missionaries traveled to heathen areas to evangelize the people, such as the Celts in Ireland. 4) In the late 16th century it became fashionable for young aristocrats and wealthy upper class men to travel to important European cities as a crowning touch to their education in the arts and literature, designed to enlighten Europes young elite. This was knows as the Grand Tour. London, Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome were visited by these grand tourists to expose themselves to the great masterpieces. Thus my conclusion is people in ancient times travel due to finding and gathering food for living, escaping from danger or predators, curiosity to see other place and always inquisitiveness, exploration another place, conquer and dominant other countries to emprise-size their power by war, some traveler travel for trading merchandise, spread knowledge their believe on religion, seeking knowledge and finding truth answer by learning or education of grand tour that will motive and driven by different reasons so that the journey begin. Therefore I believe that their reasons with the reasons of today's travelers actually is same effort as a same as ancient time only the different is timing and what their wanted to travel is some things driven or persuaded them to travel .
