Holiday Grants for Children
The Henry Smiths Charity has announced that its Holiday Grant for Children Programme will re-open for applications in January 2013. Schools, youth groups and not for profit organisations can apply for grants towards holidays or outings within the UK for children aged 13 and under who are from deprived areas or have a disability. Applications can be considered for holidays or outings that have the objective of providing children with a break they would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. The maximum grant is 3,000 for any one trip. Grants are normally limited to a maximum of two-thirds of the total cost of a trip as the charity would expect some local partnership funding to be in place. http://www.henrysmithcharity.org.uk/holiday-grants-for-children.html

Heritage Lottery Fund Announces New Funding Programmes

The Heritage Lottery Fund has announced that the Your Heritage grants programme will be replaced by two new funding programmes. The new Sharing Heritage programme will make grants of up to 10,000 to not-for-profit group wanting toexplore, share and celebrate their communitys heritage. This can include events, exhibitions, festivals and celebrations, or producing local history publications, conservation of individual heritage items, volunteer training and support. The Our Heritage programme will make grants of up to 100,000 to all types of heritage projects. For example, smaller parks and green spaces, community buildings, museum collections and archives as well as activity projects exploring languages, cultures and memories.

Children, Young People & Communities

The Community Grant Programme (CGP) last funding round
Previously known as the Community Chest programme, this popular small community grant programme has been extended to the end of March 2013. The programme was so successful during 2008-12, that it helped over eleven hundred community groups and organisations across all local authority areas in Scotland to sustain and improve their activities. Aimed at Scotlands smaller community groups and voluntary organisations, the Community Grant provides grants of up to 1,000 and free training to groups with an annual income under 25,000. These small, volunteer-led community groups make a vital difference to their communities. Their activities keep communities vibrant and encourage community empowerment and participation. They provide essential local services and contribute to social capital, resilience and wellbeing. Groups can apply for funding for a wide range of activities or operational costs, however VAF is particularly keen to fund activities that will help build and develop strong organisations.

There is one remaining round for applications to the Community Grant programme. Completed applications should be submitted by 14 January 2013. For further information and to download the application form and guidance notes click here

Young Start
Young Start aims to create opportunities for children and young people aged between 8 and 24 to help realise their potential. All children and young people, and the communities they live in, have something to offer which we want to tap into, build and develop. Some children and young people face barriers to achieving their full potential and the Young Start fund aims to help overcome these via the following programme outcomes CONFIDENT HEALTHY CONNECTED

Children and young people have more confidence and skills. Children and young people have better physical, mental and emotional health. Younger and older generations are better connected and have more understanding and respect for each other

ENTERPRISING Young people are better prepared for getting a job or starting a business.

Community Spaces Scotland

The Big Lottery Fund's Community Spaces Programme supports communities to become more involved in, and to take responsibility for communal spaces and places. Grants of between 10,000 and 250,000 to improve the appearance, accessibility and sustainability of local spaces, places and buildings are available but Projects must achieve all three of the following outcomes under Community Spaces Scotland: Communities come together to make better use of local spaces and places. Communities come together to improve their environment. Communities come together to get healthier and be more active As funding is limited fundingareas of most need in Scotland have been identified, so to confirm whether . your project is in an eligible area visit on the Lottery website and use the postcode eligibility checker. Communities and Families Fund

The Communities and Families Fund is a grant programme funded jointly by the Scottish Government and the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland. The fund will support local projects that help families and communities give children the best start in life. Organisations can apply for a grant of between 250 and 10,000 for a 12 month project that will meet at least one of the following outcomes: 1. Improve the quality of life of children (pre-birth to 8) through greater access to early learning, play and child and maternal health support 2. Enable communities to shape and deliver support for families. The fund will concentrate funding on projects that benefit children, or parents and families of children, who are eight years and under. Examples of the types of local projects that we want to fund include: Parenting support and development projects Community play projects Projects that support better nutrition for young children Community-based family support and childcare projects. Community, Environment & Heritage

CSV Action Earth
closing in November
The CSV Action Earth campaign runs until the end of November, supported by SNH (Scottish Natural Heritage). CSV Action Earth Awards of up to 250 are available to groups of volunteers carrying out environmental activities. The all important grant criteria is quite straight forward: You must have permission to work on the chosen site, which must be in Scotland. At least 10 volunteers should be involved, each giving a minimum of 5 hours. Open to all groups: community, residential, youth. Schools only when partnering local groups on a general public site. Each group or organisation may register only one project in each type of grant. Grants are for tools, materials and volunteers expenses. They cannot be used for wages or fuel. Expenditure must be planned and itemised receipts will be needed. Please take photographs and submit a press release to local media (help and advice available). Grants are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Co-operative Community Fund

The Co-op provides grants of 100 to 2,000 to community, voluntary, or self-help groups to run projects that address a community issue; provide a good long-term benefit to the community; support co-operative values and principles and are ideally innovative in their approach. Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme

Sports clubs, associations and schools can apply to the Lords Taverners for funding to assist with the purchase of manual sports wheel chairs for young people aged between 8 and 25. The Lord's Taverners have initiated this scheme to help young disabled people participate in and enjoy wheelchair sport. The funding which is being made available through the Sports Wheelchairs Sponsorship Scheme will award grants of up to 50% of the cost of the wheelchair with a maximum grant of 1,500. The Lords Taverners also have a multi-sports wheelchair scheme which enables applicants to obtain a standard chair at a subsidised cost of 350. Culture & The Arts

Expo Fund - Made in Scotland closing 26 November
Creative Scotland has announced that companies and individual artists are now able to apply to present artistically ambitious work as part of Made in Scotland 2013. Made in Scotland is supported by the Scottish Government's Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund to showcase Scottish-based performing arts talent in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Fringe Expo Fund is intended to support the costs of presenting work at the Fringe (as opposed to the costs of commissioning and creating new work). It will provide support towards the expenses involved in presenting a production at the Fringe and mitigate against the financial risks this involves. The total funding support available for this year is anticipated to be in the region of 200,000. Other than the limitation of this available budget, there is no minimum or maximum level of grant that can be applied for. Funding proposals are accepted from dance and theatre artists, companies or organisations based in Scotland for the presentation of productions as part of Made in Scotland at the Fringe.

Applications can be made by individual artists or from companies/organisations, but individuals must be able to demonstrate that their principle home is in Scotland and companies and organisations must have their headquarters in Scotland. The Ernest Cook Trust

Registered charities, schools and not-for-profit wishing to encourage young people's interest either in the countryside and the environment, the arts or aiming to raise levels of literacy and numeracy can apply for funding to the Ernest Cook Trust (ECT). The Trust operates two grant making programmes. The small grants programme (under 4,000) supports state schools and small registered charities which would like to undertake projects which meet the Trust's objectives and require a small amount of pump-priming in order for such projects to take place. Meetings to consider applications for the small grants programme take place bi-monthly throughout the year and the large grants programme (Grants over 4,000) is aimed at more comprehensive education programmes. Idlewild Trust
The Idlewild Trust makes grants to registered charities concerned with the performing and fine arts and crafts, the advancement of education within the arts and the preservation of lands, buildings and other objects of beauty or historic interest in the United Kingdom. Digital Research and Development Fund for Arts and Culture

Creative Scotland has announced the second funding round of its 500,000 Digital R&D Fund for Scottish Arts and Culture. Funding is available for projects to use digital technologies to connect with wider audiences and explore new ways of working. A key part of the Fund is supporting collaborative partnerships between arts and cultural organisations and technology providers. To be eligible organisations must be either predominately publically funded and/or registered charities and want to work with digital technologies. Nesta will be holding digital advisory days on 27 and 28 November 2012 in Scotland - these will be run subject to location and demand. These will give arts/cultural organisations and technology providers the opportunity to hear more about the Fund; encourage new collaborations; and run your idea past digital experts to gain constructive feedback before submitting an application to the Fund. The British Film Institute Film Fund

The British Film Institute has announced that its Film Fund is open to applications. Through the fund a total of 18 million a year is available for filmmakers in the UK who are emerging or world class and capable of creating distinctive and entertaining work. The funding is available for the development, production and completion of feature films. The British Film Institute welcome applications for all kinds of film from commercial mainstream to experimental, from genre movies to personal stories, from documentaries to animation to live-action fiction.
