[Geometry]: [Project 10.

7] Name: Date:

Directions: Follow the instructions carefully and make yourself a circle. What you will need: - 2 sheets of 8.5 X 11 regular white printer paper (1 extra just in case) - 1 pair of scissors (be careful!) - Ruler or tape measure - Camera, computer, or phone to take a picture at the end

Step #1 Take your paper and fold up one side to the opposite edge to create a triangle.

Step #2 Fold down the remaining rectangle of paper back and forth until there is a crease mark.

Step #3 Cut along the fold mark to make your sheet of paper into a perfect square.

Step #4 Fold your square across the diagonal.

Step #5 Now fold this triangle along the altitude.

Step #6 Fold it again in the same manner.

Step #7 Draw a dotted line curved like the picture.

Step #8 Cut along this line.

Step #9 Unfold to see your circle.

[Geometry]: [Project 10.7]

Step #10 Cut your circle along every fold line.

Step #11 Place all 8 wedges on top of each other and then cut them all down the middle. This gives you 16 wedges.

Step #12 Write your name by putting one letter on each piece. Then take a picture.

1. Measure the Base and height of this parallelogram. What is the area formula for a parallelogram? Find the area.

2. What part of the circle makes up the base? How much of the circumference is this? Write the formula for the circumference of a circle, but use B (base) instead of C (circumference).

-- HINT: 2B = C --

3. The more wedges that are cut out of a circle, the closer the height gets to being equal to the radius. So for this worksheet, assume:

-- Height = Radius of Circle -4. Now use the formula for the area of a parallelogram and the radius to write the formula for the area of a circle. Once you simplify, this will be the area of a circle. -- HINT: Diameter = 2 Radius --

Substitute in the values that you found above

Area of parallelogram = (B) (H) = ( circumference) (radius) =____________ =____________
