Dance - is a type of art that generally involves movement of the body, often rhythmic and to music.

It is performed in many cultures as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, or exercise, in a spiritual or performance setting, and is sometimes used to express ideas or tell a story. Dance may also be regarded as a form of nonverbal communication between humans or other animals, as in bee dances and behaviour patterns such as a mating dances. Phases of dance: Folk dance - They are dances performed at social functions by people with little or no professional training, often to traditional music or music based on traditional music. Ethnic dance - these dances reflect the peculiar characteristics of specific tribes specially their cultural, racial; religious and traditional similarities. although the movement patterns are not specific this dance is seldom classified as a folk dance. National dance Creative Dance - The creative dance curriculum incorporates the movement education concepts of Rudolf Von Laban, who stressed the educational benefits of dance as an aesthetic, social, and communicative form. Gymnastic dance - Gymnastics is a graceful and artistic sport requiring a combination of strength, suppleness, and muscle coordination. It is increasingly popular at the recreational level and is particularly good as flexibility training. Ballroom dance - is a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. (e.g. Tinikling-Leyte; SubliBatangas) Characteristics of phil. folk dance: differed from place to place. give pleasure to dancers and audiences. reflects cultures introduced by invaders and conquerors provided socialization and a sense of community. passed down from generation to generation. some groups have a repertory of dances. sometimes done on specific occasions, social gatherings, and festivals.
