Associated Student Government University of Arkansas ASG Senate Resolution No. 17 Authors: Senate Luke Brasuell, Senator Rachel Kuklenski Sponsor: Senator Ellen Rudolph A Resolution to Support the Addition of Water Refill Stations Whereas, The U.S. consumes approximately 1,500 plastic water bottles each second, 15% of which are recycled while the remaining are left to consume our landfills; and With the installation of automatic bottle refill stations in water fountains in the HPER, Union, and Walton College buildings, students now have more options for their reusable bottles; and In the Universitys campaign for a greener, more sustainable campus, the installation of additional stations and/or replacement of incompatible fountains across all campus buildings would increase the use of reusable bottles and reduce the amount of plastic bottle waste; and The replacement and/or addition of such fountains could reduce the transfer of bacteria and viruses spread from touching or breathing near the water spigot, and therefore has the potential to reduce sickness and illness; and It can be rather difficult to refill a water bottle with conventional water fountains; and Students, faculty, and staff may need to travel to other buildings on campus to find the nearest water refill station; then The Associated Student Government requests Facilities Management install at least one water refill station in each campus building to decrease the use of bio-hazardous containers such as plastic bottles; and Adding simple use, automatic refill stations throughout campus would make it even simpler for students, faculty, and staff to
