Family Role Models Growing up, my family has played a huge role in my life motivating me to do things that I would never expect. When I was little I grew up in a small house that consisted of my mom, dad, twin brother, little brother, grandma, grandpa, aunt, and uncle. Living with several different people, I believe motivated me to want to read because it gave me that sense of calmness and relaxation. I remember my aunt and uncle always sitting down and reading books for school and writing essays and wondering what they were doing. I always had that curiosity to find out what they were doing so I would sit and watch them and being a little kid I wanted to do what they were doing so I would either crack open a book or get a piece of paper and apply my elementary writing skills to write a story. Reading and Writing for pleasure Its rare to find me sitting down reading and writing for pleasure nowadays. When I do sit down and read for pleasure I usually pick up a book that I can learn something new from. I know when I was younger and I would go to the library I always would pick out books about animals, or historical fiction books. Books like this motivated me to want to read which helped to strengthen my reading skills. Technology Technology has helped me to read and write because in order to use any type of technology you have to know how to read or write. Texting has me practicing my writing all the time. Starting to use the internet for school when I was younger helped me to practice my reading and writing by constantly having to research things and engaging in the material. Special Programs Throughout school there were many programs that teachers had the class use to practice reading and writing and typing. I remember using Mavis Beacon to teach me to type and reading programs to teach me to read and write. Self-Motivation Honestly I have never liked to read so I have never really been motivated to read. But learning motivated me to read. I love to learn and in order to learn I have to read and research things.
